CDC drops COVID Health Assesments for cruises.

Or the cruise lines grow a backbone, band together and tell these countries NO! little fiefdoms shouldn’t dictate business practices if it’s not in your interest.
I realize cruising has made it easier and much affordable for the masses to travel the world, but health restrictions for international travelers are nothing new. I was fortunate enough in College (1975-1979) on two occasions to travel the world for school and more than one nation required specific vaccines and tests to get a Visa to enter their countries.

I think that's a little different than what's going on now.

I think one of the reasons the CDC put out this statement is because of vaccines and testing. With both in place cruises should be safe, but drop them and they would be setting themselves up for potential issues. And it seems like plenty of people are vaccinated and willing to test to get on the ships. From what I heard, a lot of the reducing sailing numbers is because the ships are setting the minimum, not because people aren't cruising. I think we'll have to wait until this summer when more schools are out to know for sure. But if I was looking at things from the cruise industry, if people are willing to comply with all the mandates and they are still hitting their capacity quotas, why bother changing anything? It's like how the Disney parks are raising their hotel and tickets prices - if people are still willing to pay, why do anything to change how they operate? And I'm sure they want to avoid the PR disasters from the start of the pandemic when we heard about all those ships isolating passengers and not being about to dock.

How is it different? Countries get to decide who can visit and what the requirements are to do so. You may not like it, the cruise lines may not like it, Disney may not like it, but it is their country.
The specific illness is certainly different. We have a pandemic now. Years ago it was to prevent a pandemic.

There's a lot to unpack with your statement. I'll leave it at that.

Princess just had a big outbreak on a Panama cruise 100 percent vaxxed. They docked in San Francisco as per scheduled. No PR disaster times have changed.

I think your attempt at not starting a debate might have failed.

This whole thread is a debate to be honest. Some people want the regulations gone, some don’t. Us chatting about it here isn’t going to affect anything. Maybe the mods should just lock it. The news was reported. Vaccines and testing are here for now and no one here knows when anything will change. Maybe we should just leave it at that.

We can all speculate on if vaxxed will be required in the future or not. but a good example is the panama sailing with 100 cases, but fully vaxxed. No issues. Now imagine a full ship, non-vaxxed doing a 14 night trans-ocean sailing - 5 days from land and there is an outbreak.

My my guess is that if cruiselines can decide, they will differentiate between a cruise that is 3 or 5 nights, vs 7 night with land stops, vs longhauls ( where medical care is limited) I can also see them making it a requirement for medical insurance for non-vaxxed. Probably makes the process of a medivac easier and faster.

smh.

All the crazy in this thread aside, can someone tell me what the FE's people were talking about are?

It’s a guest-to-guest gift exchange… like secret santa on Disney cruises. No point in getting into more detail seeing as how DCL doesn’t allow it any more.

My nephew is a Director at a Public Health Unit in southern Ontario. Yesterday they closed the largest vaxx clinic. When I asked he said they have achieved their goal of fully vaxxed people(something like 91%, dont quote me). I hope they never stop requiring fully vaxxed passengers, it doesnt cost the cruise lines anything and prevents serious health care overload. Now the testing, especially with the less than accurate rapid tests, that could go. Just my 2cents.

But I don't believe home tests are accepted by cruise lines, only "administered" tests.
No, but it is a covered test.

Tests for travel have generally been at your own expense under the US health system
