CDC changing requirements tomorrow...

Thanks for the Shoppers link.

Do we assume that it has to be 24 hours before your flight, or simply the day before?

I fly out at 10:30 am, and booked a test for the day before at 10am, hence my question.

I’m hoping it’s the day before (not 24 hours). We fly out at night and we have some other stuff going on the night before that we can’t change.

Oh I hadn’t considered that ! And 24 hours prior to departure or arrival in the USA? Our flight leaves around 10am and lands around 1pm . So maybe I’ll book our tests for after 1pm the day before just to be sure. Though I’m sure we will have exact guidance soon.

We're flying out on the 26th so I'm guessing we're going to have to order the switch health kits but also waiting to see what the official announcement looks like.

New York Times reporting it will be 24 hours, and not 1 day before. Although whether they appreciate the differences between the two. CTVnews.ca said "a day before". hopefully rapid antigen tests for fully vaccinated passengers will suffice. Otherwise getting a rapid PCR test is going to make things so expensive that we may have to cancel the trip.

Hopefully it's a day, US has always used "days" instead of "hours" like Canada has done... anything can happen though!

I leave New Year’s Day and there was a Rexall near me booking appointments online. I think you will be ok because pharmacies will be open on Boxing Day. Rexall is about $30. I’m not sure how that compares to the Switch Health Kit.

ETA .. Duh I’m sorry ! .. you meant your tests would need to be on Christmas Day. Yep .. that will be trickier. I bet airport locations are going to open through who knows what they will charge.

That's my major concern to be honest, we're supposed to be on a 7:30 flight and the testing location at Pearson doesn't open until 6 from their website.

I'm just going to pull the trigger on the Switch Health kits once the CDC announcement is finalized.

It's a big deal for me since I won't have a car, to have to get tested 5 days in and 3 days before I leave. I'm there for 10 days. Hope they don't make the change before Dec 9.
Same for me. Our trips are 10-14 days and we don’t have rental car either. Plus having to take 2 days out of vacay for testing. Half days anyway. I’m not booking anything right now until I see what’s happening.

This should be fairly accurate:
Costco - $16.99 - you can book up to 22 days in advance depending on the location - - https://costcopharmacy.ca/appointment

Walmart - $19.99 - you can book up to 25 days in advance depending on the location - https://portal.healthmyself.net/walmarton/forms/Dpd#/

Rexall - $30 - some locations only have 3 days in advance, others go much further (I booked for mid-March already) - https://www.rexall.ca/covid-19/test...t91s6weTE8tSVmHc_p8o35fLGnzne7M0Bf6tjFbpHhQkQ

Shoppers Drug Mart - $40 - you may be able to book online further in advance. You may only be able to book 6 days in advance (walking in to book or calling) https://covid-19.shoppersdrugmart.ca/en/testing/antigen-screening

Loblaws and related would be similar to SDM. I also got emails from Sobeys that they are offering them as well (call to book)

It is hard to find sites that offer it and have spots available. I would prefer to go back to Costco but they don't seem to offer Saturday bookings very often so I booked Rexall but will keep trying for Costco as it worked really well for us in October.
I can’t understand why BC still doesn’t have all these cheap options or so many places for testing:-(

It's now 24 hours in advance of your flight time, no longer the day before. Schedule your test time carefully. The news article in the title says the day before but that's not what the content says - mid way it specifically says 24 hours. The news article is here: https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coron...to-get-covid-19-test-the-day-before-1.5690344

In that news link , they quote an insurance broker saying his clients are having a hard time finding options to get an antigen test done that would be ready by the next day. I find that hard to believe, with pharmacies offering antigen testing that come back within 15-20 minutes. I realize timing may be harder around Xmas. Unless the broker is under the impression that a PCR test is needed.

Ugh. Our flight leaves at 9pm at night (thanks WestJet). And what happens if your flight gets delayed?

Now I’m thinking the switch health tests and do them the morning before our flight is the best option.

Do you think this will potentially change airlines cancellation policies? For example, Westjet gives you 24hrs before flight departure to request a cancellation
  • ll flights booked between March 3, 2020 and December 31, 2021 will be allowed a $0 one-time fee waiver for changes or cancellations
  • Change or cancellation must be requested more than 24 hours from departure
Previously, If you took a test 72 hours prior to departure this gave you plenty of time to cancel, however now that you need to take a test within 24hours/1 day before departure it might be more challenging to meet that window of cancellation.

Same problem here in Quebec. No easy/cheap way to get tested for travel

I don’t understand why all the provinces don’t have the cheap antigen tests like AB/ON. I’ll just get the Rapid Antigen the day before my flight in January (if same rules) My flights in the morning, so plenty of time the day before to do it.

Forgive me for my confusion but do we once again now need a test for just a short day trip over to the U.S. (crossing land border)?

Thia

This just popped into my head as well...

Does this apply for vaccinated Canadians driving across the land border, then boarding a flight to the US there? Our flight is from Buffalo, we will be driving there the night before then flying southwest to Orlando.

We haven’t heard yet, but I’m erring on the side of not. The restrictions for land vs air were never aligned - not saying whether that’s warranted either way, but the land border literally *just* opened. Could you imagine 2 days after opening to testless -72 hr trips, they impose more restrictions 😬
