CDC’s Framework for Conditional Sailing Order Temporarily Extended Through January 15, 2022

What does this mean? No cruises over 7 nights extended until end of January?

Princess is currently running a 15 day cruise from Los Angeles to Florida via the Panama canal, so longer cruises are allowed. HOWEVER, they had a hitch day before yesterday at the Panama canal. Panama would not let the pilot on board to guide the ship through the canal because the covid tests on the bridge crew were done the day before. Panama changed the rule to require the tests to be done the day of, apparently after the ship left Los Angeles. Everything is still in flux. The passengers will miss one port on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal

FYI the revised/new order (link to PDF in post above) is an interesting read as it gives a bnch of info and stats about covid in the cruise ship context since resuming sailing, including # of reported cases and info about some outbreaks.

Just got off the 8 night fantasy cruise yesterday. That isn’t a rule anymore.

Well, it's not a rule as of today. But everything in the CSO is voluntary for ships departing from or arriving in Florida because of the current injunction from the district court, anyway.

What do you all think this statement means from the new order??
  • Removed requirement for monitored observation period of passengers prior to embarking

Not really voluntary. The ports the ships are going to are dictating the conditions the ships must meet. From that perspective, the injunction carries no legal weight.

Sure, but I don't think that the ports are mandating that all cruises be seven nights or fewer. That was a CDC thing.

Cruise critic says the CDC rule for longer cruises is gone. BB34DB67-B248-48F8-B642-77F6DB94E2ED.png

Per the new order itself, "Removed requirement to limit voyage to 7 days" See page 8 https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/pdf/CDC-CSO-Extension-10-25-21-p.pdf
The CDC relaxed that restriction before the first post-restart cruise left the US so the 7-day limit has been irrelevant for a while. There was a clause in the original CSO that allowed the CDC discretion to shorten or lengthen it:
CDC may shorten or lengthen the number of days permitted to sail based on public health considerations and as set forth in technical instructions or orders.
This change just removes it from the written document.
