I am wondering if anyone can tell me whether I would be able to take my four year old snorkelling on Castaway Cay if I brought her own mask, snorkel and fins.
I know that they won't allow me to rent her stuff if she's under five, but do they ask how old she is if I have equipment for her?

Has anyone ever taken their four year old snorkelling there. Any issues?

I'd think, if you have your own equipment, I'm not sure they could stop you. But, maybe they could - it's their island, their rules. :confused3

Has your 4 year old snorkeled before?

I'm not sure they could stop you/her from "snorkeling" around in the swimming area (I'm not sure fins are allowed in the regular swimming areas) - there are a few fish that come mingle around people's legs. But I've heard the actual snorkeling area is quite a distance out from shore to really see anything; I think she would need to be able to swim quite far (both out and back). People with elementary school-age kids have mentioned it was challenging.

Enjoy your vacation!

Our youngest daughter was four when we went on our first Disney cruise. She's very small for her age, and even still, no one said anything about us taking her into the snorkeling area to snorkel with us. She had her own snorkeling equipment and flotation vest. We taught her how to use the mask and snorkel before the cruise.

That was 9 years ago, so maybe things have changed.

We didn't know there was a 4 year old rule. We rented equipment in may and no one said anything. She didn't quite get the concept but loved riding on daddy's back and sticking her eyes in with her mask on and yelling "fish!"

I don't think you'll have any problem as long as you stay with her.

That's so cute!

I pulled my eight year old out with me. I was so tired! We had to go really far to see anything. It was fun though.

Does everyone need to rent snorkelling equip or can my daughter (3) come in with us to just chill with us?

It's a long swim out and the water is deep. It's not possible even for an adult to touch the bottom. Your daughter would have to be on someone's back.

I was there this past week! I took two 8 year olds and a 10 year old! No problems! You can get a life jacket for the four year old if that makes you feel more comfortable. I didn't think it was far at all and my kids did just fine, but we are really active and strong swimmers!

I've taken my 4, 5, 6, 7 year old snorkeling (same kid, different years). You have to have the vests the provide, they can be inflated or not, but they don't restrict the snorkeling by age. I did have a rule that the kiddo had to hold my hand the whole time, that way I knew where he was, and it was easy for him to get my attention if he needed anything, usually, he'd be asking me what kind of fish that was :confused3 would usually be my response!

He's now 10, and has been certified to scuba dive for the last 6 months! :cheer2:

You have to swim a long way to the cool underwater stuff. We made the mistake of snorkeling after lunch and my kids were too tired to make it out there. You can't tow them out on a float either.

Do you have to pay for floatation vests?

Vests are free. Charge for the mask and snorkel.
