CC excursion question.......

We, DH, myself, and DSs 14 and 15, would like to do Kayaking sometime during our 7 night Western cruise in July. While at Key West, we hope to have relatives join us so it would not work there.

We have been reading about the hiking/kayaking excursion offered at CC. It sounds as though it runs about 2-2 1/2 hours. Will this take up too much of our day at CC?? Our DSs are part fish and will want to be in the water as much as possible.

We just did this with a 14 & a 15 year old. We all loved it. It is a 40 minute walk but leisurly to get your kayak and then you kayak over to a private beach where you swim for a half an our or more, seemed like more to us, then you kayak back and then it is about a 20 minute walk back. Ours left at 9:30 am and we got back around lunch time, I am thinking 12:30 or 1pm. But this was a special stop at CC so don't know if the regular one leaves at 9 or 9:30. They saw many more things at the private beach than they would at the family beach, all kinds of fish and so forth. It will take about half of your CC day but they will get to swim for some of that also.

vgaskin, was the private beach on Castaway Cay? Where was this beach located?

It is on CC but not part of the island normally for visitors. I think only this excursion takes people there, so maybe 2 sets of people 3 days a week so there is plenty to find. You take the tram to serenity bay and walk down the bike path to the end. I think if you look out at the scenic view at the end you can see it. At the end of the bike path, you get in your kayak and paddle over to the other part of the island. I think the island bends to the left right there so if you walked it would be pretty far. Since you take the kayak, you just go straight there. We could see where we were going before getting in the water. So the kayaks were waiting far down from Serenity bay then you cut across the water to get to the tip of the island sticking out. Hope that makes since. I don't have my CC map here(someone is borrowing it) but when I get my hands on it, I will see if I can give you a better description.
