I want to stay at CBR or CSR on my next trip at Christmas. Am I crazy not to do the preferred location.

We have stayed at CBR the last two trips. The kids really love it. We don't stay in the preferred locations closest to the food court. First we stayed at Aruba and recently at Jamaica. We like the walk across Cayman Cay to the food court. There are so many bunnies and geckoes and birds and the view to enjoy we just find that really relaxing. The buses were extemely close to our room, and very prompt. This is their favourite place, and dispite me asking about going elsewhere, we have had dinner at the Contemporary and gone though the Polynesian, they don't want to stay anywhere but CBR.
Have a fabulous vacation,
Donna

We've only stayed at CSR but honestly I don't think any of the walks are that bad. Ten minutes isn't a big deal to us, but it may be to some. We enjoy the scenery and take it all in- if we had a preferred location then we might actually miss out of some of the scenery.
It will be fine no matter what you do :)

CSR! Check out my CSR website for pics and info. CSR is a newer mod with elevators in every building, a great pool/slide, awesome food and terrific transportation.

There are great locations at CBR that don't require paying for a preferred location. If you are going after Sept. CBR will have a great new pool complex.

I recommend CSR! Awesome pool/slide for all ages, the transportation is some of the best I've experienced and it doesn't share with another resort and the food options are great!!

There is always the chance that CBR or CSR may not be able to accomodate a request at a non preferred location near the food courts, main pools, etc. I guess you need to decide if you are willing to walk the 10-15 minutes if you had to. I say book what you want if you have your heart set on being close to the amenities.

I am the queen of NOT getting my requests. When we last stayed at CBR, they put us in Trinidad South, and ya know, I actually did not find it bad at all. We enjoyed the location, and it was a pleasant walk. CBR is our favorite mod. I have also been out in the weeds in the last room on the top floor of the 90's building at POP. I will only book preferred there if I stay there again. I did not like that much. :) We also had a room a great distance from the food court at CSR. Just too much walking.

Have a great trip!!

Denise

Only the CBR has the preferred buildings, the CSR does not. You can request a waterview or a kingbed at the CSR, but there are not preferred buildings (that you pay extra)

I think it really comes down to theme. We've stayed at both, and they are layed out very similar. My kids prefer CBR. We've never requested a specific building and we've always been satisfied. If you aren't near the food court, then you are close to a bus stop--even better! Only time we were disappointed is when we went with another family, booked way in advance to be together, and when we got there, the only rooms together were smoking. (That was four years ago--not sure if they have smoking rooms anymore)

CBR has a tropical, island feel and CSR has a Mexican feel. The grounds at CBR are so nice--never minded the walk to the main building for b'fast or a late night snack.

CSR! We stayed in the Casitas section (no preferred location). The walk to the main pool was a bit long, but we didn't mind that as the grounds are so pretty - it's a nice trip around the lake. I never pay extra for the preferred location. This way you see more of the resort, and save a little cash. In the whole scheme of things, you walk all over the parks, walking a tiny bit more at the resort isn't really that bad IMO!:cool1:

Thanks for the great replies. I feel much better now. I love staying at a new resort every trip. ( I convince my DH we are on a different vacation) I will now spend the next few weeks deciding between CBR & CSR.:goodvibes

I don't think you can make a bad choice. CBR does have preferred rooms, however our room in Barbados was not far to anything, including the main area.

I agree it all comes down to theming and what you prefer. I do like CBR's rooms a bit more, they are just a tad larger and have a double sink. However, CSR's main pool is better (but who knows what the new CBR main pool will be like).

I found walking, size of resort and bus service equal. Neither resort shares a bus with another resort.

CBR buildings don't have elevators if that is a big deal, make sure you request first floor (but that will be a request only).

They are both awesome resorts!

I am going to use the "different vacation" trick too. Let's hope he buys it:laughing:

CSR would be my choice between these two mods. The pool is better, there are fewer bus stops and I like the food much better at CSR.

What is the deal with the CS meals here. Do they charge a exrta fee?

Yes, there is a 10% gratuity charge added to the bill if you eat in. Take out has no extra charge. But it's not a typical food court in the traditional sense.

I've decided to do CBR this trip. Which non preferred room is the closest to Old Port Royal?

Jamaica 45 and Aruba 51 are a quick few steps to the bridge that leads across the lake right to Old Port Royale!
