We are still trying to decide on which resort would be best and right now we are leaning towards CBR but I still had a few questions for all of you CBR experts.

I know that swimming is not allowed in the lake but if my little ones want to play on the beaches at CBR will they be allowed to be right at the edge of the water? Wet sand is always more appealling than dry sand to a 3 y/o boy and I don't want to deal with trying to keep him from the water line. Are there usually lots of kids playing in the sand?

Thanks!

Yes they could do that. There is one small piece of beach by the bridge that I wouldn't recommend but other than that the beach is a great place to play. Some of the kids meals come in a bucket to use on the beach.

Any particular reason you wouldn't recommend it? I know that WDW is great about trying to keep out undesirable animals but I have to say the thought did cross my mind that I might not want DS next to a water line in Florida! :earseek:

Because that one stretch of sand is where the ducks and birds and turtles hang out for people to feed coming from the food court. There is plenty of sand for kids to play in. My kids did for years and they are ok.

Just be aware that the sand probably does not extend too far into the water - if at all. Some of Disney's 'beaches' end at the waterline, and you're walking straight into mud if you want to get your tootsies wet. However, if the little ones want to go the the water's edge to fill a bucket to help make a sand castle, I'd say you're fine as long as you take the usual precautions.

(BTW, we did see an alligator in the lake at CSR last June. It is Florida, after all!)

Amoebic dysentery.

I don't know if that's still an issue, but it was when I was last there 15 years ago and we were warned by CMs (and posted signs) to stay out.

That would be for swimming in the lake. If they are getting a few buckets of water for their sand castle it shouldn't be a problem. I haven't seen a lifeguard or CM bother anyone that was doing that.

The amoeba problem is if you are swimming in the lake and the amoeba can enter your body through the nose most times.

When my daughters were little, we would build sand castles on the beach at CBR. We asked a CM, and he said they could get the water from the lake. My daughters are now ages 15 and 17, and they still talk about building sand castles on their first WDW vacation at their favorite resort - CBR!

The beach that was near us was filled with bird doo so before you allow your children to play in the sand make sure that the birds didn't leave you any *presents* CBR has fish food for sale on the beaches in these machines so your kids can feed the fish....great idea right?? No it isn't because it attracts a ton of birds as well and they ruin the beaches with their droppings. So just be careful!! :flower:

We stayed at the CBR in 2003 and my dd loved playing in the sand. But one of the things she remembers most were feeding the ducks and when that big turtle came over and bit a duck. So, yes, they can play, but make sure you are down there with them to watch for those turtles!!!

We stayed at CBR in Aug of '03...kids were playing in the sand, but I got eaten alive by sand fleas or the like...my ankles were sore and swollen for days. This has not happened to any of us before so it may have been a fluke....but we have stayed at CR and played at that beach, and the one at the Dolphin... :confused3 I personally liked the Dolphin beach much better...larger, playground attached, the Sheraton employees had games for the kids(at least when we were there) my kids did enjoy the turtles at CBR, but were warned not to touch or feed them and there are signs up also. Have you checked into Coronado Springs? I have read many rave reviews about the pool/dig site area there....it is also a moderate and has it's own bus service.

Funny that you should ask this. When we were at CBR there were some children walking along the waters edge. There was so much bird poop around I couldn't understand why a parent would let their kids do this.

So, look before you do this. It didn't look extremely sanitary to me and I am by no means a clean freak. I own many animals myself.

We are just back from CBR and our kids enjoyed the beaches at Trinidad North and South--especially the playground at Trinidad South. They did play in the sand and walked along the water getting their feet wet.

The beaches seemed clean, though there were a lot of seagulls flying around. My kids liked chasing the gulls. By the way, Sammy Duvall's water sports now does waterskiing and tubing trips at the lake at CBR instead of just Bay Lake at the Contemporary, so while Disney doesn't permit swimming in the lake, it is okay to go in the lake to water ski.
