Carribean Beach Resort pirate:

Rooms are the largest of the moderates - 340 square feet (same as WL).
They have 2 full size beds (like WL), 2 sinks, and a refrigerator.
All rooms are now non-smoking :cool1:

Please help...we never have stayed at CBR - now considering it (DS request).

Are the beds comfortable ? Are they over soft ? Do they squeak?

Is a preferred rooms worth the $$'s - Matinique or Trinidad North ?

Should we ask for a 1st oe 2nd floor room (there are no elevators) ?

Noise levels if you are on the 1st floor from outside or above ?

When was the last time CBR had a room rehab ?

Would teens like the CBR main pool ?

Can you fit a cot or aerobed in the CBR rooms ? I would assume you could since at WL it was not a problem.

Thanks for any help and information :)

I suggest taking a look at the CBR FAQ thread listed below.

CBR is a great resort to stay it. If you want to be near the main pool and food court then yes it is worth paying the extra money for a preferred location. My kids loved the pool at CBR.

I don't think you will find much noise at CBR. They do ongoing refurbs at CBR.

There are a few really informative threads specifically about CBR that you may want to read thoroughly...you'll probably find the answers to all your questions.

I'll give it a shot though: We've stayed in both 1st floor and 2nd floor rooms. We've never had a noise problem, however asking for a 2nd floor room may be your best bet if you think that the possibility of noise may be an issue for you.

We've never paid the extra $ for a preferred location. To us, Jamaica IS a preferred location (short walk over the bridge to OPR, yet far enough from OPR making it a quiet location). However, many people with little kids would probably appreciate the preferred location near OPR and the large pool.

Would teens like the main pool? I would think so, since teens seem to generally like any pools ;). However, it always seemed as though the teens gravitated towards the quiet pools.

I believe the last major rehab was in 2002.

I've stayed at CBR twice and will be there for a third time this August. I like it alot, my DH likes it (and he is not a big Disney fan), my DS9 likes it (but at Disney he sleep in the car and not care).

I have a bad back and the bed is comfortable to me. Don't get me wrong, it's not like home but I feel okay sleeping on it. I personally do not think they are oversoft and I have never heard squeaking. The only downside on the beds are that they are full size.

I wouldn't spend money on a preferred room. I think Aruba or Jamaica are a close walk to OPR. That is where the food court, shops, bar and main pool are. That is probably the only place you will need to walk to during the stay (you can take internal bus for check in and check out).

The bus stops are pretty close to all rooms as there is a bus stop for each island. I always check for the bus stop closest to my room. Once, while staying in Aruba we found that the Jamaica bus stop was actually closer.

I stayed on the first floor both times and had no problems. I didn't hear any excessive noise (of course, there will some) and got to watch the lizards and rabbits throught the windows. I also enjoyed be able to step right outside to have a cigarette or take in the morning sunshine. I don't think I would like a second floor room due to the missing elevators and having to carry bags, but I cannot comment because I've never had one....yet.

I think teens would like the main pool. They might not want to ride the slide but there is a waterfall that they might like to sit under. The quiet pools are a nice alternative and I found them to be mostly empty. The teens might enjoy that more because it was kind of like having our own private swimming pool.

Hope all this helps.

OK, we stayed here once. The rooms are the largest mods, but honestly I could not tell a difference in room size between CBR and POFQ.

The beds are full size -- not the same as WL which have queens. They weren't soft or too hard. They were comfortable, but full size beds are not only narrower but they are a bit shorter as well. If you are tall, you might notice it.

A preferred location room is definitely a good thing. To be near the main pool (if you plan on using it) and the food court is very helpful. The grounds are pretty but the property is big, so plan on long walks if you don't get a preferred.

I'd definitely ask for a first floor room. HATED dragging luggage upstairs. And it was hard on my elderly Mom to hike it up and down those stairs everytime we were in and out of the room.

We did not have any noise problems.

I believe it was rehabbed in late 1990's, but could be wrong.

I think a teen should like any pool, but not especially the mods if they are looking for fancy high slides. They say CSR has the best slide of all the mods, but I haven't been there. Best slides for teens are at the deluxes, but the pool at CBR was nice.

The WL room is bigger. (It held queen size beds and your roll away or aero bed if that is what you had) The room at CBR will have space between the beds, but I'm not sure if an aero bed would fit since we've never done it.

Look at the picture below of the space around the beds:

WE LOVED IT.
we did the preferred room for my foot issues and it worked well. used the quiet pool every day. clean, close by laundry facilities and a nearby bus stop. 5 minute walk to food and shops. excellent mousekeeping too.

the only downside was having to leave and come home

I think you guys should defnitely stay at the CBR. It's a gorgeous resort that offers something for everyone.

Now, let's get to answering your questions:

Beds: We have stayed in the villages of Martinique and Jamaica and the double beds at both locations were very comfortable. No squeaking problems at all. When we were at the resort in June, 2006, they were replacing all of the mattresses (we asked a CM why there were dozens of mattress trucks around the resort) so they are fairly new.

Preferred location: Like I said before, we have stayed in both Jamaica and Martinique.

In all honesty, the walk from both villages was just about the same. If you stay across the lake, you get to walk across a wooden bridge and through a pretty island to reach Old Port Royale. If you stay on the Martinique side, you get to walk through your village and around the promenade passing by pretty beaches.

I, personally, wouldn't spend the extra money for a preferred location as I liked both the preferred Martinique and the non-preferred Jamaica.

1st floor or 2nd floor: We always request an upstairs room. That is just our personal preference.

Noise: We have never encountered any problems with noise. We are always amazed at how quiet the CBR is.

Rehab: I'm not sure when the last time the whole resort was rehabbed but I do know that Safetymom's word is the law. So, if she says rehabs are always ongoing, I believe her 100%.

Main Pool: The main pool is really cool. Our teenager and our 10 year old really enjoyed it. It can get pretty crowded, but we go during the really hot days of Summer so that's expected. We actually enjoyed the quiet pools better than the main pool. There are no frills at the quiet pools but they hardly ever had anybody in them during our June stays.

Aerobed: I would think that, since the rooms are 340 sq. ft., you wouldn't have a problem putting an aerobed in there. There is quite a bit of space between the door and the bed, in between the two beds and between the bed and the wall. I would think by squeezing in the furniture, you'll have plenty of room to put an aerobed in.

Now that we have your questions answered, I wrote a review of our ten day June, 2007 stay and posted it here on the boards. It may answer other questions that you don't have posted. Here is goes:

We have stayed at the CBR two years in a row and have enjoyed both stays. The minute we drove onto the CBR grounds we fell in love. The tropical theming is carried out throughout the resort. The buildings are all painted bright colors. The grounds were well maintained with fruit trees and lush foliage everywhere.

You will need to check in at the Custom House. Unless you have major problems during your stay (which we never did during either of our 10 day stays), you will probably not go back to the Custom House until you are ready to check out. That being said, it is not necessary to request a room near the Custom House.

The Concierge Desk is where you will pick up your dinner show tickets. They can also provide you with a printout of all your ADRs.

Bell Services is located at the Custom House too. If you arrive via Magical Express, you can request that Bell Services take you to your assigned building. You can also use Bell Services at check out to help get your luggage (and yourself) to the Custom House.

The CBR is a large resort but this means that the guests are distributed evenly throughout the resort and you won't feel crowded.

During our June, 2006 stay, we were assigned to Jamaica Building 41. Our upstairs room faced a beautiful lush courtyard. The walk to any destination was not long at all. I especially liked crossing over the bridge and through the island to reach the main pool and food court. Tropical music is piped in for your enjoyment.

During our June, 2007 stay, we were upgraded to a room in Martinique. In my honest opinion, the walk from our preferred location seemed just as far as the walk from Jamaica. I really don't think I would have paid the extra money to stay in Martinique. That's not to say that we didn't like it because we certainly did. Our room faced a very pretty courtyard with bright umbrella tables.

The rooms at the CBR are 340 square feet whereas the rooms at the value resorts are much smaller. Believe me, when you start getting all your people and all their luggage into the room, you'll be glad you have the extra space. We are a family of four (ages 41,41,20 and 10) and we have plenty of room at the CBR.

The beds at the CBR are raised off the floor providing you with a great space to store your empty luggage. There is a nightstand, a table with two chairs, a large mirror, an armoire with television and lots of drawers, a refrigerator, a bench with large storage drawer and a peg type shelf in the bedroom area.

A privacy curtain can be pulled to separate the sink/closet area from the bedroom area. This comes in real handy when you've got several in your party.

There are two sinks in the sink/closet area. They are enclosed is a wooden vanity with storage area beneath. The closet has a long closet rod and our room had about a dozen wooden hangers already there. I brought along two dozen more and we still had plenty of room to hang all of our shirts.

A small safe is located in the closet wall. It's pretty slim and you can't store much more than a camera, a wallet, etc.

A hairdryer, iron, ironing board, refrigerator and coffeemaker are standard in the CBR rooms.

The bathroom was the typical hotel/motel bathroom size but our's was extremely clean. There were no loose tiles, mold or mildew. I checked!

Mousekeeping was great. During both stays, we received five towel animals. Our trash was taken out and our floor was vacuumed daily. We had four people in our party and we were given six large towels every day. They also replinished our coffee supply each morning. I tipped our mousekeeper each day.

I was really surprised at how quiet the rooms are at the CBR. We hardly ever heard our neighbors. If they were walking by, we would hear them if they were talking loudly. Most times, it was just quiet.

Each village has their own quiet pool and neither the Jamaica nor the Martinique quiet pools were busy at any time of the day. Some times, we had the pool all to ourselves. Laundries are located near each village quiet pool. You can swim and do laundry at the same time!

The white sandy beaches in each village are swept clean each night. It was so nice to just sit in a beach chair or laze around in the hammocks.

The walk around the promenade is very pretty. You can get a real feel of the resort by taking this 1.4 mile walk. At one point, you will walk on wooden walkways through a wooded area. The flowering trees and bushes are everywhere. Plenty of picture taking opportunities along the way.

The main pool was pretty crowded during both of our stays but we expected that since the temps were in the high 80's/low 90's. The hot tub and hair wrap station are near the pool. Order a tropical drink at the pool bar and sip it at any of the numerous umbrella tables.

At the marina, you can rent pontoon boats, sailboats, canoes, watermice, bicycles or surrey bikes. Fishing excursions are now at the CBR too.

Each village also has their own bus stop. The bus stops are covered (I hear they are not at the value resorts). We never waited long for a bus. As a matter of fact, at times, there were two and three buses at the bus stop at the same time. Because the CBR is so centrally located, it never took us long to get to any Disney destination.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food court/store/arcade area. The store is divided in two with one side selling Pirates of the Caribbean, Caribbean Beach Resort and tropical merchandise. They even sell coconut postcards that you can mail home to friends and family. The other side of the store sells the more traditional Disney merchandise such as snowglobes, t-shirts, purses, watches, hats, scrapbooking items, etc.

The arcade is not super large but it had plenty room to keep up with the June crowds. You purchase a refillable playing card that you just swipe at each game. No keeping up with tokens or change.

We really enjoyed the food selection that the food court had to offer. You go to each of the food stations, order and get your food and then go to a central cashier. Simple to do.

The grab-n-go section serves fresh made sandwiches, salads, yogurt, fresh fruit, pies, cakes, veggies and dip, along with lots of other fresh items. At the pizza station, you will find pizza, pastas and salads. Burgers and chicken strips are served at another station. The kids chicken strip meal is served in a plastic sand pail with shovel. Yet another station has rotissiere chicken, roasted turkey, vegetables and hot sandwiches.

At breakfast, an assortment of breakfast meats, Mickey waffles, fresh fruit, pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns and omelets are served.

Shutters is a full service restaurant and the food was good. Even our picky 10 year old son found something he liked on the menu.

The food court seating area is large and we never had a problem finding a table. The self serve drink area has several drink stations. On the condiments bar, there was hot tea bags, honey, assorted jellies, parmesean cheese, hot pepper sauce, etc. There are also a couple of microwaves and toasters.

If you want to take your items to go, just tell the CMs who are plating your meals. They will provide you with tops for the dishes. At the register, ask the CM for a bag. They give you large brown bags with handles making it easy to carry your items out.

Hope this helps in your decision making process, Lisa

Are the beds comfortable ? Are they over soft ? Do they squeak?
Everyone's idea of "comfort" is different. I don't think any of the WDW resort beds are comfortable. They are all too hard. Considering that you ask if there are "over soft" you should be fine!

Is a preferred rooms worth the $$'s - Matinique or Trinidad North ?
I think so. People talk about getting Jamaica, but everyone who does not pay for a preferred location asks for Jamaica! You may end up at the other end of the resort and you'll have a long walk to Old Port Royale! We were in Trinidad North before they started charging extra and it was less than a 10-minute walk to the food court.

Should we ask for a 1st oe 2nd floor room (there are no elevators) ?
I prefer a first floor room at the Value and Moderate resorts. I don't like climbing stairs or taking an elevator to my room when I can see my door!

Noise levels if you are on the 1st floor from outside or above ?
I have experienced very little noise from above me. From the sides and from outside, yes.

When was the last time CBR had a room rehab ?
I was there in 2000 and they were in the process of their rehab.

Would teens like the CBR main pool ?
IMO, no. It's not a great pool for teens. It's small and the slide is lame. It and the OPR was rehabbed a couple of years ago and I was disappointed that they didn't make the pool nicer.

Can you fit a cot or aerobed in the CBR rooms ? I would assume you could since at WL it was not a problem.
A twin? I would assume so. It's the biggest of all the moderates.

Hi Pooh2001! Glad to hear your coming to Disney! Well i'm going to help you out with your thoughts on CBR. I have been there plenty of times to tell you how awesome Caribbean Beach Resort is!!!! I don't think you will leave there wishing you didnt stay there.

So, I have to say that overrall service for CBR is EXCELLENT! Rooms are always well-kept and cleaned. Outside areas are kept clean! Maintenance is really never an issue, all rooms are checked before new guests arrive. "MOUSEKEEPING" is fantastic! In answer to your question about teens liking the pool, I believe they will becuase the main themed pool, located behind "Old Port Royale" is where alot of the guests head to and the pool is huge! But if you or the rest of your family would like to be in a more secluded area, each island/village as their on pool! All of the pools are heated as well!!

At night, most of the resorts, including CBR, have whats called "Quiet Time" . It runs from 11PM until 6 AM....to give those guests who are already in their rooms to get some well needed sleep after a long day in the park. Most of the pools are open til midnight...but when you check in, you might just want to double-check that.

CBR went under refurbishment only a few years back, so the rooms have nicely been refurbished! Old Port Royale is the main area for dining & shopping & main themed pool! Martinique and Trinidad North are the closest villages/islands to Old Port Royale. Check in is at the Custom House...after your stop at the security hut, the custom house will be on ur left hand side.

IF you want to try to get convience, you may request either islands "Martinique or Trinidad North. In Martinique, bldgs 24, 25, & 26 or closest to Old Port Royale...In Trinidad North...bldg 31 is closest to OPR. But if you dont mind having a little walk to OPR, you may like staying in Islands: Jamaica, Barbados, Aruba and Trinidad South. There is a bridge that connects from Aruba and Jamaica over the lake to OPR.

There are bus stops outside very island. Buses run every 20 minutes. Some routes may take longer, becuase of traffic or distance. There is also an "Internal Resort Bus" that will take you from island to island, the custom house, and Old Port Royale.

Food Court areas are usually serving until 11 or 11:30 PM and breakfast usually starts being served around 6 or 6:30 AM. This is a sit-down restaurant called "Shutters" right inside OPR. I hear they have good food :) . OPR also has an arcade area too.

For those afternoons and evenings that we get the thunderstorms, go have a nice lunch or dinner, and take the time to relax and plan your next day's activities. Wait until the storms pass before venturing out again. Lightning is nature's number one killer in thunderstorms. When skies darken, move indoors and keep away from windows.

Well I think i've given alot of the info you were looking for, and I hope it helped! If there is more you would like to know, please don't hesitate to ask!!! Have a Magical Day!

Shane, :welcome: to the DIS!!!

You had a lot of good ideas there :thumbsup2. The only thing I might suggest is: "Paragraphs are your friend!" I had a really hard time reading your post with it all bunched up in one big chunk.

Hi Robin! Thanks for the big welcome and the suggestions!! Also thank you for the compliments! It was nice to hear that some cares about what i wrote and the great disney knowldge I have! Also yea, my writing is not usually like that, i was a little bit rushed when writing that earlier.

But like always, suggestions are always appreciated! I'll let you in on a little secret, with the crazy disney knowledge I have, not many people realize how much i know and the secrets i have, alot of people think I just "Magically" make this stuff up. You know darn well you can't sit there and make that up.

It's nice to see that there are people out there who care, like yourself! Thank you for that! Also, anything you ever want to know, please dont hesitate to ask! Thank you again! Take care!

Hi Shane,

Welcome to the Disboards. I found your post very helpful.

My family of four has been to WDW 12 times in the past ten years so we consider ourselves Disney trip planning experts. Who do you think our friends and family turn to when they want help with planning their vacation? Who do they call when they want to know where to eat? Who do they question when they want to know how the bus system works? Etc. Etc. Etc.

Even though we've been oodles of times, I still love reading the boards and picking up other members' tips.

Lisa

wow, the more i hear/read the more excited I am. my family will be staying there for the first time this aug. we are so excited. I loved POP, but hope to love this even more.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I'll answer your questions (from my point of view) as best I can. Never hurts to have more than one opinion, right?

Carribean Beach Resort pirate:

Rooms are the largest of the moderates - 340 square feet (same as WL).
They have 2 full size beds (like WL), 2 sinks, and a refrigerator.
All rooms are now non-smoking :cool1:

Please help...we never have stayed at CBR - now considering it (DS request).

Are the beds comfortable ? Are they over soft ? Do they squeak?

Depends on what you consider soft and comfortable. They are not as soft as my pillow top mattress at home, but I prefer a firmer bed so I think they are great. They don't squeak...at least not the ones I've had.

Not to start and argument or invoke 'corrections' by other members. I have asked and had confirmed (by CMs) that the moderate beds, though listed as 'full size' are actually 6 inches longer than a queen bed. Reason in a nutshell, as I was informed by a former friend/CM, they want people to think they are getting something more at a delux, but still physically feel more comfy at a moderate than at a value. I'm sure I'm about to be bombarded with people telling me I'm wrong, but save it, I don't care. I personally believe this because my husband is 6'5"...he has to sleep corner to corner at a value to fit in a bed, he fits fine (and we are both able to sleep in the same bed!) at the moderate resorts--that's all the 'proof' I need. So, take that for what you will.

Is a preferred rooms worth the $$'s - Matinique or Trinidad North ?
I personally think so. You may end up just over the bridge across the lake which is really quite close, but you may end up at one of the buidlings at the far end which is quite a far walk. At this resort, I would definately take the preferred than risk it.

Should we ask for a 1st oe 2nd floor room (there are no elevators) ?
There are no elevators, but the stairs are not bad...they are wide and not very steep.

Noise levels if you are on the 1st floor from outside or above ?
I've stayed on both several times and aside and never had a noise issue.

When was the last time CBR had a room rehab ?
The rooms were redone in 2000 with refurb to the main area and pool done in 2002, if I'm not mistaken...

Would teens like the CBR main pool ?
Probably. However, my thought (having traveled with a teen for years) is that they will prefer the 'quiet pools'--there is one for each section. They are virtually empty and free from noisy, rowdy kids. Plus, they may actually stand a chance at snagging a chair for some sun. They always seem full at the main pool.

Can you fit a cot or aerobed in the CBR rooms ? I would assume you could since at WL it was not a problem.
Yes you can...we have put both an air mattress and one of their cots (which are actually pretty comfy) in rooms before. Shift the table a bit and they easily fit.

Thanks for any help and information :)

You're welcome. Have fun on your trip at my favorite resort!:wizard:

CBR remains my favorite resort. It has an "adult" feel and the rooms are very, very quiet which is nice for napping during teh day. The pools are plentiful and great. It is the only resort I would consider paying ore for a preferred room as it can be a hike to the food court, but if you can get the teens to go for you....(devilsih grin)

We found zero negatives in our stay at CBR =) We really enjoyed the extra space in the room, the bright colors, beaches and hammocks. It was probably the quietest resort we have stayed at, ANYWHERE. We had a first floor, corner room with a beautiful view of the beach. I would recommend requesting Jamaica =)

The entire resort was shut down in 2002 and reopened Dec 2002. They have been doing continuing refurbs ever since. Many have reported new bedding, etc.

:wizard: My daughter and I stayed CBR last August and are staying there again this August. We had previously stayed at ASMovies 3 times and decided to move up to a moderate. We were so happy we chose CBR.
The grounds are beautiful and so relaxing. Our room had plenty of space and the beds were very comfortable. We swam mostly at the quiet pool near our room. After walking the grounds, which are huge, we were very happy we paid the extra for a preferred location. The resort has a lot to offer and I don't think you'll be disappointed at all! We can't wait to get back there!

Hi Lisa,

Thanks you as well for the welcome to the DIS boards! I'm glad you have found my post very helpful! That's what i'm here for and other things as well! That's awesome to hear you are pretty much Disney's plaiinig/trip experts =)! I am pretty much up mthere in the expert category too. I have been going to Disney ever since I was 2! To me, Disney is such and awesome experience! I never want to lose it at all! I'm actually going and staying on property for 4 days/3nights, to celebrate my Dad's b-day in the end of July...so i'm pretty psyched about that!!! Anyways, well just so ya know, if there is anything at all you want to know or not sure of about Disney, please feel free to ask!! I will answer it as best I can! I will talk to you soon! Have A Magical Day!!
