Hi, I just found this website last night and I absolutely love it! Anyway, I've been to WDW 8 times since I was 5 and finally after a 6 year break, my mom is taking me and my sister to WDW again! We're staying at CBR and we'll be there around my mom's birthday. I want to have a little surprise for her, perhaps when we arrive, and I don't have any ideas. I have heard about mailing a stuffed animal to the resort, and having a character sign it and placing it on the bed or something. But this only works if you're going to the Park the first day (i think), which we're not. Does anyone have any ideas? this is the first time I'm going to Disney that I'm old enough to take some things into my own hands, and I really want to show my mom some appreciation. ::MinnieMo

Welcome to the DIS Boards!

Let the CBR know about celebrating your Mom's birthday. They might send to her room balloons and a signed card from Mickey Mouse. Let them know ahead of time and confirm on check in or the day before you want it delivered to the room. This is not a guarantee; but it is at least worth the mention.

If you send flowers or a gift basket; wait to have ir delivered until the day after you arrive and are settled in your room. I made arrangements ahead of time to send my parent's a fruit basket. While it arrived on the day we did; they did not receive it until later that evening. Florists do not guarantee delivery time; so don't count on it being in your room when you arrive.

Disney Grams are a cute personalized keep sake ranging in price from $19.95 to $29.95 regular price. Save room in your luggage as they are not small. Use discount code of Holiday2003 to save 10% when ordering online.

Be sure to pack some party decorations and tape. Little store doesn't sell tape. We had to use stickers to put up the birthday banner in the window. A small round table clothe, banner, streamers and balloons go a long way to decorate a room!

We will be celebrating two birthdays in December. Suppose the January babies will also want to be included.

A nice breakfast, lunch or dinner can be nice, too. Arrange to have a cake. Make sure to mention the celebration when making your ressie and when you arrive. When you eat lunch or dinner at the Garden Grill they offer a complimentory 6" cake. Be sure to ask. A nice CR person told me about this.

Whatever you decide, your mother will be happy and thankful you thought of her.

Have a great trip. Wish your mother a Happy Birthday from us.

Don't count on Disney doing something special because you mention that your Mother is celebrating a birthday. Many, many people are celebrating some occasion when they come to WDW.

If you want something special for your Mom arrange and pay for it. That way you will not be disappointed. Also I would not try to have something in the room when you first arrive. You may be assigned a room but it can be given to someone else before you check in. Then they would get your gift.

So plan on doing something after you are issued your keys and you have put your luggage in your room. You could always arrange for something then.

I am sure she will appreciate whatever you do for her. Afterall she is celebrating in WDW. Also make sure you stop at Guest Relations in the Parks and get the birthday button. Sometimes you will be granted magical moments because you are wearing the button, you can have a CM dial a special number and she will get a birthday greeting from Goofy. Also it is nice to have Cast Members wish you a happy birthday. When I wore mine everyone in Prime Time Cafe sang Happy Birthday to me. They put a candle in the piece of pie I had ordered.

Another thing you could do is arrange to be on the beach at Martinique at CBR when Illuminations the fireworks go off. It starts at 9PM. If you can't arrange a gift for in the room you could give it to her with the fireworks blasting in the background.

Welcome to DIS, I think it's wonderful that you want to surprise your Mom, I also agree with Safetymom don't count on Disney to be able to help due to same reasons Safteymom gave you. You didn't say who all would be going with you (just you and Mom??)
I thought if it is just you two or maybe you'll have a brother or sister with you..anyway you could have a picture of the group or yourself made at the park in front of the Castle then when they hand you the card for pick-up you be sure to get ticket and sneak away to purchase it without your Mother knowing...Then if she asked you could act like you lost the pick-up card, you'll have to be a little sneaky. With the picture and a frame from Disney I think she would love just that...She would always have a special memory from your trip....::yes::

Did you get my answer back to you about the avatars.

Thanks everyone! Great ideas. I wasn't asking for any freebies from Disney b/c I do realize that many people are celebrating occasions at Disney too. I will definitely use one (all) of the suggestions.

MaginInMyHeart...
I did get your message, thanks. But I'm still having problems placing an icon to my name b/c it says they are all too large, even though they are tiny icons. Oh well, I'll keep fumbling with it. :earsgirl:princess:

I agree you can't expect Disney to do anything for your special occassion. It would be terribly disappointing if you counted it. But, there is certainly nothing wrong with mentioning it; and if you get the balloons and card great and if not that's okay, too. Don't get irrate if you don't. I would have never have know about resorts doing this in the first place had it not been the DIS Boards.

I don't expect to get something for nothing; which is why I bring my own decorations, arrange for flowers, balloons, cakes and special dinners and events myself. In July, I did let CBR know we were there to celebrate DD's 2nd birthday. They did bring us balloons and a signed card from Mickey. A nice woman working in the CBR store also gave her a limited edition pin on her birthday. Wish I could remember her name; but maybe I will see her again in December. It was a very nice unexpected surprise; and I didn't feel right about taking it. It was her own personal pin for trading; but didn't feel right about not paying her for it.

I have not mentioned the birthdays for this trip to the CBR; and I may not. They are for DM and DFIL. I do however have special dinners, shared fireworks cruise (Thanks Bete for sharing with us and also allowing us to upgrade it); and I will once again bring party supplies to decorate the rooms along with all the holiday things, too. Still deciding on whether I want to send flowers or baskets.
