I am very upset.

I have just emailed the local shelter asking them if they can take my two kittens.

They are 11 weeks old and we have had them for 6 weeks. DF is allergic to them.

We have tried everything imaginable to ensure they can stay without putting DF at risk but I realise now I have no choice but to rehome them and I am devasted.

Sending them to family or friends isnt really an option. The few housholds I would trust with them have children with asthma or are full of pets already.

We got cats because we don't have time for a dog and as much as DF is my priority I am as mad as h^ll with him as he had admitted he knew he was allergic before we got them.

Can't offer any advice here but I remember simliar situation
DD8 had lots of breathing/asthma problems when little. We had a beautiful Shar Pei called Kato of 3 years. Phone call from doctors in tears telling us on an allergy scale of 0-4 that dog dander was 4 as far as our daughter was concerned.
While there was no choice in the decision, it was one of the hardest we made :sad

I sympathise, but there may be a solution. I am allergic to cats and certain long-haired dogs. My DH bought me two cats for my birthday 16 years ago - didn't stop sneezing for about 2 months when it dawned on me why I was sneezing. There was no way I was getting rid of the cats - even when the doctor said I was allergic (did all the tests), so he gave me a nasal spray. I used this spray each morning and evening - as soon as I woke up and then again when I went to bed. No problems. I took it for about 18 months, mind you, but it was worth keeping my cats.

I haven't had to use that spray for about 14 years now aw:

Might be worth considering a trip to the docs?

I dont think I could let them go! How bad is his allergy? I would be tempted to say that as he didnt tell you before its too late now and he will just have to put up with it! As someone else said a nasal spray might help, I have allergies and I use naselnex which works very well.

I can sympathise with your boyfriend as I'm allergic to cats too, mind you it's a great excuse to get away from the 'In-Laws' when we visit

DF has dr appointment for tomorrow but i'm not confident.

If he was sneezing it wouldnt be too bad but after just 5mins with them he struggles to breathe.

It wasnt that bad at first but has gotten steadilly worse over the last few weeks.

my dh is the same- we went to some friends for a meal within an hour he could hardly open his eyes and his breathing was bad he ended up on steriods and was really unwell for a long time. Trouble is their hair is so fine it gets everywhere so if you do get rid of the kittens it wil take a while before he stops sneezing.

DF dr must be a cat lover!

He has given DF an inhaler but told him to go back in 2 weeks to check if it is working and if not dr says there are many things he can try!

May be worth trying some anti-allergy tablets for your other half, available without presciption, and see what happens.Not certain but I think you can find special cat foods available for pets with dander problems if that's what is giving the allergy.A really good vacuum cleaner can help too (take a look at the ones available to cope with pets ) along with an air purifier/ioniser which will keep the fur from floating around the home. Try to keep the kits out of the bedroom then they cannot leave fluff on the bed etc and give you both a good sleep. good luck from Wifey

Would it do any good to have a cat-free bedroom? No cats allowed plus strong air cleaner in the room? I try to keep our guest room cat free since our DIL is allergic.

Our bedroom has always been cat free, Now the living room is aswell.

The inhaler given by dr seems to be working. He has been using it once a day since last tues and feels much better.
