Every once in awhile I will catch one of the cats chewing on a phone wire or another small thin like wire. What can I use so they won't be disabling my means of communication? Is there any type of spray or something that would deter them from this bad behavior?

I have three persian babies:D When they were kittens, they were quite the gnawers!:p I found that a squirt bottle with water worked like a charm - when the kitties started their gnawing, I started my squirting:D

We have a wire-chewer:rolleyes: NOTHING has worked. He'll be 9 years-old shortly, and he's chewed just about every wire in the house. I finally figured out that he chews when he is hungry. Therefore, when he starts chewing, I start running for the canned food. He has me well-trained I guess.

For serious chewers who can't be detered , there are sprays and pastes like Bitter Apple and others that you can put on things. Just make sure you test a small spot first and be careful handling the wires.

Keep in mind also that not all pets will be swayed by the bitter taste. Monty Dog actually licks his lips and begs for the stuff  and when I had ferrets, one of them liked it too. The other two hated it.

My friend's kitten hates it.

So it may be worth a shot.

My cat chewed my AC adapter for my laptop and broke it I had to buy a new wire for $84 dollars. My cats getting expensive.

Monty Dog has eaten over $75 worth of PS2 wires. Thankfully none of them hurt him.

We now have a wireless controller.

My vet suggested a bottle of hot sauce. We painted wires with it and let them dry. Our cat didn't like the spicy flavor. Of course, if your cat is a "pepper belly" it might not work. ;)

Wonder if any of this would work on a rabbit that loves wires.

We have two cats. Bitter Apple worked for us. Also, a small shock when Misfit chewed through a low-watt strand of Christmas lights also was a deterrent. ;)

One of my girls is a chewer, what helped is that I gave her safe things to chew like paper and cardboard and string. She just chews, she does not swallow. She will onece in awhile try to get to wires and I will chase her away, and also put a big decorative pillow or something else on the floor in front of the wires to hide them so she'll stay away.

We went through so many baby monitor & cordless phone cords it wasn't even funny. We tried the Bitter Apple stuff & it didn't work.

What we ended up doing was going to Lowe's or Home Depot & buying this flexible tubing to put around the cords. Here's an example. It worked like a charm
