A bit of background.

The trip had almost been in planning since we returned from our last trip in July 2003
We were flying with United Airlines, Glasgow, Chicago, Orlando, staying in the new Nick Hotel for two nights before moving to a 7 bed villa in Emerald Island, where we would be joined by another two families – number in total 14!!
We also had arranged to meet up with night-train – John and his DW Laura and DD Caitline for 2 days of our trip at IOA and MK.

We had 7 day Magic Your Way base tickets and 3 day Universal tickets.

I had made so many PS’s that BT recommend I have Disney Dining in my Friends and Family calling circle!!!! I had so many restaurants I wanted to try this trip that I had 9 PS’s made. I was desperate to try Zebra Domes!!!

Day 1

After checking the DIS for the last time, it was time for Desperate Housewives. I decided to watch both Channel 4 and E4 episode. Got to bed at 12, alarm set for 3am. I automatically hit the snooze button when it went off at 3am, then remembered to day was no ordinary day. Kids were easily wakened, dressed and we were ready for just before 3.45. I did try and secretly switch in the PC to have a wee last minute look, but I was foiled by Tony. He was furious with me!!! He said I had a DIS addiction problem…….don’t know where he got that idea!!! Anyway, my dad arrived on time and we left just after 4. After about 5 minutes into a 30 minute journey, it started. ‘Mum, are we near Glasgow Airport yet?’ This was a continued theme of the entire trip, as you will find out later! ‘Where is Chicago?....Is that in this world mum?’

We got to the airport and were checked in all the way through. Kids were complaining of being hungry. I had that seedy sickly feeling you get when you haven’t had enough sleep. I couldn’t eat a thing, but both DS’s had sausages. DH had a scone! All at exuberant airport prices of course.

We were boarded BMI flight, BD1, an airbus 320 and lucky me got to sit next to BOTH DS’s. Anthony is quiet and a bit of a deep thinker. Christopher talks constantly. Asks questions constantly. And so the ‘Are we there yet scenarios continued’ ‘Mum, when are we taking off?’ ‘Mum, when are we moving?’ He continued like this the entire flight, changing from ‘taking off’ to ‘landing’, asking every five minutes. I hate doing it, but I had to eventually ask him to stop asking me questions!!! He then took to reading the safety leaflet – examining all the exits, and telling me what the brace position was!!!.

At last we landed at Heathrow. The flight was ok – a bit bumpy. Why do they serve the most disgusting things for breakfast on planes? Omelette Panini!!! Yuk

The movement through Heathrow was very smooth. A bit of time to spare in Terminal 3 to allow some browsing in Rigby and Peller and Duty Free. Bought myself some Juicy Tubes lip gloss. Kids bought Star Wars Top Trumps and The Gruffalo book. We boarded and left bag on time. A Boeing 777. Big plane. Nice service from United, but they have started to charge for alcoholic drinks at $5 a pop!! Meal was the usual nauseating choice of chicken or pasta. I had pasta. Kids got their kids meal which we had pre-ordered. The kids tray was jampacked full of grub!!! Chicken Nuggets and smiley faces and beans; salad, fresh fruit salad; mini mars bar; 2 bread rolls; and yoghurt! I didn’t watch any movie on the flight, only read about 20 pages of Marian Keyes, didn’t sleep either. But time passed quite quickly with the human flight mapper as he continued his questions, ‘Are we in the sky yet? Are we near Chicago? Are we near Orlando? How many more miles? How many more planes till we get to Orlando? Where are our cases? What are clouds made of? Are we flying over water? Are we in another world yet? When will we be on the ground? Where was his yellow life jacket? Can planes float?.........ENOUGH I said! :confused3

At last Chicago!! It was 12md CST. Our flight to Orlando wasn’t till 6.10!!! We hatched a plan that we would try and get standby for an earlier flight. Immigration was very easy. Had our picture taken by the nice man and we were on our way. Pick up bags……customs….drop off bags. On the train to terminal 2. Hey hey, and what did Terminal two have………Chili’s!!!! I was keyed up with the prospect of those Shanghai Wings that Anz talks about so lovingly in all her trip reports. We got in; got a table and guess what……… no shanghai wings! Only buffalo wings. So we had them instead. Wow, they were fantastic. Hot and very tasty!!! Kids moaned non stop that they wanted a McDonalds. But I refused. ‘It’s my ******* holiday too’ I said as I slammed my coke down onto the table. I didn’t really do that……..but the drama sounded good for the trip report!! :teeth:

So mealtime over, we decided to try and get onto the earlier flight at 3.50pm We were put on standby. And we were lucky….we got on!!! I sat on the plane thinking how lucky we had been with our travel. No delays, few hold ups. All very smooth. We land at MCO at 8pm EST. Got our bags very quickly and on to the Alamo desk to pick up our SUV – a Chevrolet Trailblazer. It was pretty cool! Kids loved it. We were out of MCO by 9 and on our way to the Nick Hotel!!!! Part 2 coming up!

Oh Good a new trippie,

Great start Cath, I admire your guts in doing 3 different flights in 1 day, I can barley do 1 without a large Vodka and Tonic.

Cant wait for part 2.

Hi cath
enjoying the start to your holiday.
As we will most probably be flying from Aberdeen or my home town of Glasgow I'll follow this with interest.

By the way I have a DS(Jack 4) who is the same. In between questions it is can I play the PlayStation2

Reid

Looking forward to your next report.

Great start to your report Cath

It's nice to know that I'm not alone in my Dis-addiction (my family are always taking the mickey saying I live and breathe Dis)

I can't wait for the next installment

Good start Cath, tell your DH though that if you WEREN't addicted to the DIS then all your planning wouldn't be half as smooth! :)

Very much enjoyed your report. One of my son's was exactly the same with questions, he ended up being extremely good at science - I think your son will too - inquisitive minds.

Looking forward to reading your next report. :)

Great start Cath!

Can't wait to read the next episode :teeth:

This is my first time reading a UK trip report. Looks interesting so far. I hope you don't mind a Canadian jumping in every now and again.
