Hi all...
I need ideas I have a Communion this weekend for a 8 year old girl and I am a Confirmation sponsor for a 13 year girl later this month...

not sure what to get them.... ideas..

usually cash is what I give too, but I can see if you are a sponsor wanting to give something a lil' more meaningful. Maybe a book or small statue about the confirmation saint he/she picked? Or any book on Catholicism, nice rosary, scapular.....

My niece/goddaughter's communion is next month. I got her an engraved locket with her name on the front and 'Flores curat deus' (God takes care of the flowers) on the back.

I would likely also get jewelry for a young girl if I were her confirmation sponsor.

If it were a less close family member or friend I give cash/check/savings bond.

I usually give a engraved coin that has their name and date on it, jewelry is nice. I only have boys so not much by way of jewelry here. There are a couple of great shops online. For the younger ones I have given a catholic prayer beanie baby that I have had their name embroidered on

My DD8 is making her 1st Communion the end of next month. My mom found a wonderful website (I believe it was the Bradford Exchange) with very beautiful gifts. She is going to give my DD pearls. My sister, her Godmother, is going to give her a gift certificate for horseback riding lessons which she has wanted for years!! Cash is also very acceptable. ;) If I was a sponsor, I would try to give something a little special though.

Good luck with your decision.

Cash always works. However, if you're a sponsor, a more personal gift is expected (as a previous poster said). I remember way back when I made my confirmation, all the kids got nice rings as gifts. I got a ruby ring; a boy in my class got a blue stone ring, another got a small diamond ring, someone else got a Claddagh ring (excuse my spelling) etc. I don't know if all the parents/sponsors got together and planned this, but it was funny how EVERYONE got a ring.

At my communion, all I remember getting was cash. I remember opening all the cards and the bills falling out. LOL! (I think I also got a small bible and a white rosary)

I don't recall receiving any cash/cheques.

I got a rosary and a plaque. I might have received other things but that's all I recall.

My sister and I are buying my niece/goddaughter a children's bible. She has lots of jewlery already.

My 8 year olds are making Communion this week, plus we have several parties to go to. Cash, check, or bond. I'm giving my kids Saints medals, their namesakes. Maybe you could do something like that for the Confirmation? Around here, only very close family gives actual gifts, and those that do give gifts usually give $ as well.

We have a communion party we are going to in 2 weeks- I am just giving a check for 50.00.

I am a sponsor for a really special Confirmation girl. She already had a cross. I purchased a beautiful string of pearls....she'll likely use them when she is older, but they are a gift to last a lifetime. I hope she loves them as much as I loved purchasing them for her.

How sweet! This post just warmed my heart for some reason. What a very lucky little girl she is to have you in her life.

My little cousin is making her First Communion this weekend. We just went through the what to get thing too. We ended up getting her a build a bear. It's a white bear with a gold embroidered cross. We dressed it in a white dress and veil and put the gold first communion sash on it. We got it the other day and it is really cute! We also looked at getting her the first communion outfit from American Girl or a jewelry box from Pottery Barn Kids with her name on it. There is always money, but that just seems so boring to me. She is getting a gold cross necklace from her godfather I know, and a savings bond from her aunt and uncle.

Money and something from the local religious store e.g. bible, prayer book, rosary, frame with cross on it, etc. Not very original, I guess, but that's where I would start!

First communion gifts I've given are handmade bookmarks with a cross or crucifix on them, a single pearl necklace, a keepsake or small jewelry box.

Confirmation gift, especially if you are a sponsor.. a really nice rosary. Sterling silver or crystals in a favorite color, a book of prayers, a small gold cross necklace or pin.

For my confirmation, my sponsor gave me a really beautiful cross necklace. I had other crosses, but this one was beautiful, and I wear it more than my other ones. My grandmother gave me a rosary she made herself, with sterling silver and pink crystal. It's definitely one of my most valued belongings. Maybe a nice rosary, if you don't want to get her a cross?

Didn't know they had these. Thanks so much for sharing!

My Confirmation sponsor gave me a watch. I loved it, and it meant so much to me.

I also remember receiving a charm bracelet with a Communion Charm with the date engraved on it. Later that same relative gave a Confirmation charm with that date on it.

I have given a statue of the patron saint, or the Blessed Mother.

Maddle

My ds8 is making his 1st communion this month - I mailed all aunts/uncles/friends/family 8x8 scrapbook cards and asked them to write a note to my son. I am then putting them in a scrapbook for him.

You might not be able to mail them ahead of time, but can pass them out that day?

For Communion, I have given crosses with the girl's birthstone plus a small book. For a boy, I have given a more expensive book. I am a relative and don't give cash for Communion. I like to pick out something more personal.
