Category 8 worth $200 more than a Cat 9?

I'm currently booked for the Oct. 22nd Western Carribean cruise (which ship is that?) in a category 9 room. I just looked at the deck plans and I see that category 9 rooms can be as low as the lowest deck on the ship. I can get a category 8 room (assuming they let me upgrade) for $200 more and not be any lower than deck 5.

Would that be a wise move? I'd rather not have to listen to the engine room at night.

Thanks!

Scott

The only difference in Cat 8 and 9 are location. 9's are on decks 1 and 2 (mostly 2). 8's are on 5, 6 or 7. For me, I'd likely take the Cat. 9 room and save the $200. But if you are really adverse to decks 1 or 2, then I guess the $200 charge to upgrade would be worth it.

Scott, first off, you will be on the Magic on a 7 day Western.

Second, DW and I had a cat 9 on deck 2 last year at midship (cabin #2098 on the Wonder) and we never had a bit of trouble with engine noise. We chose a lower deck, and closer to mid-ship due to DW's tendency to develop motion sickness (which never occurred). It actually meant that we were only one deck above the gangways for exits in port, and actually had less trouble getting an elevator than when we tried to catch one on the higher decks. Hope this info helps!

I also stayed in a cat 9 deck 2 . I didn't hear any noise. Deck 2 was a great deck to be on. I was on deck 6 the last time. I liked deck 2 better. I sure hope this helps. Save your money and have fun with it.

Are you taking kids. If you are, the closer to topside, the better in my experience.

We have found being on Deck 7 in a cat. 8 convenient to Deck 9 for pool, arcade, casual food, at Pluto's Topsiders/Beach Blanket, beverage station, scoops, or DS's favorite part of the ship, the basketball court on 10. We almost never take an elevator, just using stairs down to clubs on 5, or dinner and shows on 4 and 3. No worry about noisy rooms from anything above like a club or a restaurant, but there are many, many cat. 9's that likewise do not have any unusual risk of noise. I would not want to have the smaller portholes on deck 1, but sometimes think about a deck 2 cat. 9 as an alternative. we like the view we get from higher up, and the location convenience. But those are points on which reasonable minds can disagree and many will say pocket the difference in $ toward an excursion. The only motion illness we ever had actually struck DW in Triton's on a rough seas crossing of the gulfstream, and that is deck 3 midship.

Whichever you choose--you'll be on the Disney Cruise--enjoy!!

We will have kids (4 yrs old and 19 months old). I'm still not sure what I want to do. There's even just my personal preference for not being in the "cheap seats", so to speak. That word "Deluxe" throws you, since it makes you think you're getting something nicer than the "normal cabins".

I showed my wife the deck plans and she definately wanted to change, so we've upgraded. Thanks for the info!

There really are NO "Cheap Seats" on DCL. And all of the rooms from Cat 9 up to a Cat 5 have the same square footage INSIDE. All of the extra room you get with the verandah's is out on the verandah!
