Category 5D versus 5E

I requested a cat 5D room because I wanted something more mid ship. Well, we ended up with very last 5D room, so we are very far aft. On the DCL site, it lists the square footage of the two types of cabins as the same, including verandah. Since the 5E had the large verandah, is the room size noticeably smaller? If not, I thought we might as well change and have the larger verandah.

5d and 5e cabins have the same amount of interior space, 203 sqft. The 5d has a standard veranda of 43 sqft on the side of the vessel. The 5e verandas vary from about 50 - 225 sqft and are on the stern. The inside sqft of the 4d's and 5e's are the same and don't vary regardless of location.

Choosing aft is a personal decision. I see your point if given 6164 why not move to the 5e, but the 5e aft view is a different animal. Some also feel vibrations aft. Not sure if these vibrations would also be felt in 5d 6164. We have never stayed aft. The 5e's are still at least 100 feet more aft than the aftest 5d.

Just cruised on Dream in 8186, which is 5e aft. We would definitely do it again. Things to consider:

PROS

Having a balcony large enough for lounge chairs is amazing, especially on "at sea" days.

Since the ship backs into all the ports, the views are just stunning and watching the "backing in" process is fun, especially at Castaway Cay.

No foot traffic by your room, so very quiet.

CONS

We could feel vibrations of "thrusters" (not sure of correct term ) when backing into port. It was enough to wake us up. Again, this wasn't a big deal for us, but would be annoying if you want to sleep in. We only felt this backing in, the rest of the trip felt like the rest of the ship.

You are far away from Adult pool/decks. This was not a big issue for us since we preferred the private balcony, but it is quite a hike.
