We are booking a land/sea vacation for May 2005. Is there much difference for a category 5 vs. category 6? I see they are on different decks, but does it make much of a difference? (Other than the price?)
We are taking 2 children along, 7 yrs and an infant.
Thanks for any advice?

Different decks, yes, and I believe some sleep 3 and some 4. Some have a queen-sized bed or two twin beds and single convertible sofa; split bath and privacy divider.

Have a wonderful time.

There is no difference at all between a Cat 5 or a Cat 6. Just on different decks. We had to book a Cat 5 one year when we wanted a 6 since all the 6 handicap rooms were sold out and we needed one that held 4 people.

A LOT of the Cat 6 (deck 6) cabins only sleep 3 people. I know because the day the 2006 rates came out I spent about half an hour on the phone with my TA trying to find a Cat 6 that slept four in a location that I liked. I did not have as much of a choice as I thought I would. I think the Cat 6's that sleep four sell out quickly -- I booked the same Category for our 5/04 cruise and we were upgraded to a Cat. 4.

There really isn't much difference, but count me as one of the few cat 5 fans. There are significantly fewer cabins on deck 7 than on deck 6 (the most crowded deck on the ship). Cat 5 is often the last to sell out, if it ever does, so that may make it less crowded still. Actually on our first cruise we got cat 5 for the same price as cat 6 (those days are gone forever). For those who do laundry, the laundry room on deck 7 is supposed to be less busy than that on deck 6.

Thanks for the information everyone. If they sleep 4, where is the extra sleeping space? Is that the pull down bed? I don't remember one in our cabin the last time. We were category six.

The sofa converts into a small bed and above it a bed drops out of the ceiling. Looks just like bunkbeds. My kids loved it!

I too am a fan of cat. 5. I love deck 7. Of the three cruises that we have been on we have been on deck 7 all three times. Two times in a cat. 5 and one time (our first cruise) in a cat. 8.

Loved, loved, loved our cat 6 - 4 berth - right near the midship elevators on our 9/27 Magic Cruise.

One deck closer to the kids clubs and you are half way between the other main decks (deck 3 & deck 9).

If we cruised again, my family agreed we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
