Category 5 vs. 6?

I know that the only difference between 5 and 6 is the deck, am I correct? Is the location of category 5 really a lot better than 6? Just curious and trying to learn more about how all of this works. Thanks!

You are

Is the location of category 5 really a lot better than 6?

Not in my opinion

Just curious and trying to learn more about how all of this works. Thanks!

We have friends who always book cat 5 midship. They really like the fact that deck 7 has fewer passenger cabins than deck 6. Certainly not worth the additional cost to me... but it is to them.

Agree with above. It is a personal preference thing. The cabins are exactly the same except for deck and price. I would prefer the to save a bit of money so if I had my choice I would pick the Cat 6. Neither deck is a bad location so it is your choice.

Our travel agent specifically told us NOT to book the 5 because she didn't think it was worth the difference in price. Now, we were booking early so we had our choice of location for our cabin. It might have been different if the 6's were more sold out. But we've stuck with the 6 ever since because she told us that.

Not worth the price to us. We booked a 6 and loved it.

Many people are clued in to the fact that a 5 and a 6 are exactly the same...which is why if you book a 6 gty, you will frequently be assigned a 5.

We ended up booking a Cat 5 because only GTY 6 was available. For me, it was worth the $ to have my pick of stateroom location and know that I would not get a solid verandah. I figured I was already spending so much anyway, why not ensure stateroom satisfaction?

IMO that's a very good reason to book cat 5

Along the same lines... when I called for price quotes on the kids sail free deal; several dates had no availability in cat 6, but they did in cat 5.

There is approximately 50 less cabins on Deck 7 than Deck 6 (via a quick look at the deck plans), which is not enough to want me to spend more money on a Cat 5 (I can't see it making that much difference in hall traffic), but as you say it seems worth it to your friends but not to you....I agree!!!

We booked a cat 5 because we wanted to be aft and there were no cat 6 aft showing up on the web. Plus, it was our first cruise and we really didn't know any better. :) I wouldn't pay extra for a cat 5 unless you are looking for a certain location or for reasons stated by other Dis'rs.

I did love being on that deck, though. It was a little closer to the Mickey pool.

We can only use HCA staterooms. We had a Cat. 6 for our first cruise but unfortunately had to go with a Cat. 5 for the next one.
I'm kind of bummed that we couldn't book a 6 but they only have 2 available. I'd much prefer to save the money.
