Category 12 GTY upgrades

Scotsman - you were able to upgrade at the Port for additional $$, did you get a good discount for the upgrade? I don't know what the price difference between a Category 9 and 10 is at the time of booking. Would it have been the same price if you would have booked a Category 9 in advance?

I don't know but the girl seemed to think it was a great deal and we really enjoyed that large window.

We just got our docs adn we went from Cat. 12 to Cat. 9. Now I am wondering how much it will be to upgrade even further at the port! I think we will just stick with what we have~ I am so lucky! I was telling the kids all about the room we will have with a window out to sea. They will love it I am sure. We booked 11 months in advance and it is the middle end of October so I am sure that helps with the ship not being totally full.

We booked GTY 12 and got upgraded to a 10. We were in room 2653 and it was noisy for sure. It was extremely noisy when we were getting into the ports. At times the entire room vibrated, and was so loud that it even drowned out the maximum volume on the tv. To me the larger room (split bathroom) was not worth the constant noise. We rebooked for 10/22/05 and booked a cat 6 midship this time.

We paid for the inlaws to go in two weeks and they went from a 12 to a cat 11. They also went to the very front of the ship so they aren't that thrilled about it.

On our first cruise (May of 2003) we booked a gty. Got our docs and had been upgraded to Cat. 8, on deck 5, we were very excited. 3 days before we set sail, I got a call from my TA, we'd been upgraded AGAIN this time to a cat 4 ... woohoo verandah here we come

For this cruise we again booked a gty, and have been assigned to a Cat 10 stateroom (we're on deck 2 in one of those darned "noisy" rooms, but at least we'll be on the ship!) I'm not holding out any hope of another pixie dust laced call from the TA this time. But that's because we're going with another couple and they booked through the same TA. My guess is that she'd feel bad if one room got the upgrade and the other didn't. :sunny:

I asked for a cat 12 for the 4 of us and was told they couldn't book us into a 12 since it only holds 3 people. I booked a cat 10 with the split bathroom and now I'm wondering  if I should have booked a cat 9 instead. Going 8/19/06 so I guess I have time to decide.

We didn't complain, but there were a few times that I thought about it. I guess we were just happy to be on the boat, seeing as we were sailing in between hurricanes Frances and Ivan. The week before the trip we were parked in front of the weather channel just watching and waiting, and praying that our trip would not get cancelled or shortened.

I personally would not take the upgrade offered if it put me in a noisy room. I'd rather have a smaller, peaceful room. Just my opinion.

I've seen a lot of comments on this thread about decks 1 and 2 not being desirable. Which categories are booked on those decks? We booked a Cat. 11 with 4 people thru Dreams Unlimited. We're on deck 7. Is that good? This is our first Disney Cruise.

Cat 11's on 7 are good..... We had one on our most recent trip.
7543 was the cabin number. (I think)

Our cabin steward made neat towel animals each night.

If we have a Cat. 11 on deck 7, does that mean we should not look for an upgrade? Is there a chance we could do worse? Like deck 1 or 2?

SAWYERMAW1,

Did you get a ctg 11 when you booked or did you book into a ctg 12 gty and get assigned into a cat 11?

If you originally booked 11 then that's probably what you'll get.
There's truth to the phrase "You don't spend much time in your room anyway."

On our first cruise in 1999, we booked into 12 gty.....we ended up with a cat 9 BUT were on deck 1. (I was not amused)...

We have a cat 9 (2576) on deck 2 booked for the 12/12/04 cruise. According to DCL tribute site it should not be a noisy room.

(I would give up the split bath in a heartbeat for higher deck but it was not available but at least we'll have a window this trip.)
