Category 12 GTY upgrades

Oh so tempted to book a category 12, but worried that we will be placed in some incredibly noisy room that no one else wants!

As a family of four, we were told that we (obviously) will be upgraded, but would love to learn experiences of those who were upgraded from a 12. The size of the room does not really matter, and thanks to Bonine I am not concerned about particular location EXCEPT my fear of getting the "reject" room (a worry that everyone who books GTY probably shares!)

So, where were you upgraded from a cat 12?

Okay...from my understanding cat 12 only hold 3 people...so if they let you (party of 4) book a cat 12...you will have to be upgraded to at least a cat 11...which is on decks 5, 6, and 7.

I don't know about anyone else...but I'd rather have that rejected room and be on the boat than to be left at home.:teeth:

I'm sure some rooms may be worse than others but hey...at least your sailing.:teeth:

I am booked in a cat 12 gty at this time....so I'm also intrested to hear what others have to say about upgraded from cat 12...

I definitely agree -- any stateroom will be a HUGE improvement over staying at home!

So, anyone willing to share info about their upgrade from category 12?
:chat:

We've cruised on the Magic 10 times, been upgraded 3 times. In addition, we had our cabin changed once (not an upgrade, changed to another cabin same category) due to an equipment malfunction in our assigned cabin that they couldn't repair in a timely fashion.

On another cruise, we popped out of our cabin just in time to see our favorite cruise director going down the hall--she remembered us, so it was hugs, how much DD had grown, etc. I mentioned to her that there had been a baby screaming in the next room for the previous hour...she immediately offered to have us moved. I suggested that we give it one night, and if the noise was a problem then, we'd let her know. She was VERY firm about wanting us to tell Guest Services if the room was noisy, and even followed up with a phone call the next day. This was in a Cat.11.

My point is that if your cabin is unsatisfactory for any reason, tell Guest Services. They will move you if at all possible.

Does DCL let you book a cat 12 gty room that only accomodates 3 if you have 4 people in your party? I was under the impression that you can only make a reservation for your party in the room category that will accomodate your number of people. Did I miss something?

kcashner-

Do all cat 12 rooms accomodate only 3 or do some accomodate 3 and some accomodate 4? Just wondering how the OP would be able to book a cat 12 gty with 4 people if they all only accomodate 3.

I'm not kcashner, but I can definitely answer this one. No category 12 rooms accommodate 4 people. However, DCL had/has a special promotion of some sort which allowed our group of four to book at the very cheap cat 12 price. The booking CM specifically said that we would be upgraded to an 11 at a minimum as no cat 12 stateroom sleeps 4 people.

We are also booked in a cat 12... and there are four of us in our group. We didn't know at the time of booking that no cat 12 sleep 4.....it was never even mentioned. I didn't find out that the cat 12 slept 3 or less untill a couple weeks ago....and we have been booked now since....hmmm Feb or March???

Thanks for replying - I just couldn't understand how one could book a room for three with four people in their group. It makes sense now!

We booked a Cat 12 gty room for our upcoming Sept 12th cruise and were upgraded to a Cat 10. At first we were concerned because we are booked in one of the "noisy" rooms and another cruiser who was in that room previously said it was not "noisy" at all. We are just glad to be able to cruise. Now if Ivan the terrible would just move out to sea all will be well!!!

Sorry to "pirate" your thread but what does the "D" stand for in; DH, DS, DD etc. ???

It can also stand for other things, depending on your mood :teeth: :teeth:

Since there are only thirteen cat 12 cabins on the boat (all on deck 2), most people booking cat 12 gty are going to get upgraded. :teeth:

However most of them will be upgraded to cat 11, which is not a huge deal. Same cabin just on different decks. If cat 11 is sold out and you get cat 10 or better for the cat 12 price, that's usually a pretty good deal, and you can be proud!
