If you have stayed in the one bedroom cat. 3, how did you like it? Also I noticed a couple of the cat. 3's look like they are bigger rooms. Are the bigger rooms better? We have 2 adults and 2 kids. Our 3 day is costing us approx 2500.00. For 2000.00 more we could go from cat. 6 to cat. 3. Is it really more luxurious? Also does the balcony have chaise lounge chairs?

Finally, I saw some pictures on Barb's site. Does anyone have any other pics of cat. 3's.

Thanks!

We we in a cat. 3, 1 bedroom suite for our Sept. 15th 4 day. The only thing I can say is WOW! The suite is wonderful. We were in room 8532 on the Wonder. The suite has 2 full bathrooms. The master bedroom has a walk in closet and a whirlpool bath tub. The sofa is a pullout queen and there is a murphy bed in the wall. It was only 3 of us, so we never pulled out the murphy bed, just used the sleeper sofa. There is a small dining table and 2 other chairs in the living room. The master bedroom has a king size bed. There are 2 T.V.'s in the suite and both have a VCR. The service was great. The concierge team could not have been more helpful. They took care of everything. The varandah had regular chairs. Ours did not have lounge chairs, but I am sure if we wanted them one call to concierge would have taken care of that.

On the question of $$. We upgraded when we got to the port. We were in a cat. 5 and as a suprise for me, DH did the upgrade without telling me. I still don't know how much it cost to upgrade. However, if we do another 4 day, I don't think we would get the suite again. Now, for a 7 day, I would think it would be worth it. I say if you have the $$ go for it!

We did a cat 4 for our 4 night cruise and loved it. Here is a long except from my yet to be completed and posted trip report. We we do it again - probably yes since we got spoiled. Is it worth it? That is a personal question and it really depends on how important the extra $$ is. Don't do it if $$ is at all an issue. The extra $2000 would almost pay for another cruise!

The 4 midship Cat 3 might not be bigger but sure seem more roomy. Add bonus is that the Murphy bed is in the living room in the midship rooms and not in the master bedroom as in the other Cat 3. This is important if your kids will not sleep together.

Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions. Here is the except (it is loooooong!)

We had booked a Cat 3 cabin about 18 months in advance. After continuing research, I realized that there are 4 midship Cat 3 cabins that are wider than all the rest (but a little less deep). These 4 cabins have a triple wide verandah and the living room is bigger since the Murphy bed is in the living room and not the master bedroom. So, I called the TA to see if one of these cabins was open and we switched our reservation to 8032. I was very happy we did this.

We walked in the room and were blown away by its size and the wonderful woodwork. As you walk in there is a short hallway with a bathroom to your right complete with a shower and a large closet on your left. Then you walk in the living room which was very large. The living room and a queen size sleeper sofa, 2 comfy chairs and a couple of small end tables. There was also a round dining table with 4 chairs. Along one wall was a wet bar with a mini-fridge below, a large television, vcr, and a stereo. There was also a Murphy bed along the wall. On the other side of the room were two doors that led to the verandah. This room was very large – I guessed 18 feet long and 15 feet deep. I did not find the room at all crowded as some have.

Off of the living room was the master bedroom which is separated from the living room by a sliding door. The master bedroom contained a king size bed, chair and ottoman and a TV. The room was plenty big enough to move about as I would estimate the room was probably 10x15. A door to the verandah was at one end of the room. At the other end of the room was a little makeup desk. Off the right of the makeup desk was a VERY LARGE walk in closet complete with dresser and a safe. To the left of the makeup desk was a door leading the bathroom. The first part contained a whirlpool bathtub and double vanity sinks. Continuing on past another door lead to the toilet and a shower.

As I said, the room was fantastic. It was large, had very interesting lighting, a HUGH verandah (at least 25 feet long) with about 5 chairs, tons of storage (we were afraid we would loose stuff there was so much space), lots of electrical outlets, board games, and a normal hair dryer. The concierge team also left some canned soda, bottled water, and fresh fruit in the room. We felt very spoiled to be in such a room.

As we looked around, our cabin steward came in. He said he was done with the room and that we could stay. However we were hungry so we just dropped our carryon bags and headed to deck 9 for the lunch buffet. There we pigged out on peel and eat shrimp and many other tasty items. By now it was 1:30 so we headed off to our concierge meeting.

We went to the Cadillac lounge for the concierge meeting and met with Drazen who was the concierge manager. He explained several items to us and took care of our reservations. We reserved ladies night at the spa on Monday (Nassau) evening for DW, a surial bath for both of us on Tuesday (Freeport), an ocean wrap and massage following the surial bath for DW, wine tasting in the afternoon on Tuesday and Palo’s at sunset on Tuesday. Drazen took care of everything and got us the times we wanted. Mandy from the kid’s club then got the necessary information and signed both DS3 and DS10 up for the kid’s clubs and gave us our beeper. Both Drazen and Mandy did an excellent job and we were out of there in about 30 minutes.

Hello Disneyelaine....am I reading that right...to go up three cabin categories it is 2000. more for 3 nights? We are going on the 7 day Magic on 11/30 on the eastern swing...and we will be in a category 8...last year we were in category 10 and booked on board--moved up 2 categories for basically the same price as last year 10--I did call Disney and attempted to move to a category 6 for the outside verandah....none available in 6 but cat. 5 would have been $800. more for the week....thought about it seriously but decided that you really spend so little time in the cabin...and don't get me wrong...it must be wonderful....but for that kind of money I would book another week.....just my opinion but if you try and keep yourself busy..and my wife and I learned last year by trying to do as much as possible with the personal Navigator you can really see and do some interesting things on the ship...and just exploring the ship is awesome...have a great time...and if you have the extra $$$ I guess do it...but me...I am booking another trip....34 days for me to the Magic!

Don't bother with a cat 3 cabin unless you can get the cabins that end with -32 or -34. There are 18 cat 3 cabins; four are handicapped accessible, 4 are the larger midship cabins that have numbers that end in 32 and 34, and the other 10 have the floorplan that is in the DCL rack brochure (pull-down bed is in bedroom). I've posted numerous times on this subject. If you're going to shell out the $$$ for a cat 3 cabin and you can't get a 32 or 34 cabin then pick another sail date. I didn't have one of these cabins but my brother's family and my sister's family did; I had one of the other cat 3 cabins (8546), and I was able to compare the two cabins types on a daily basis on my cruise! Hope this helps!

We (me, DW and DS8) were in 8048 on the Wonder in September.
The room was very nice -- lots of space, 2 baths, etc., etc.

My only complaint was the noise from overhead VERY early in the morning (4:30am). The crew was getting ready for the day and dragging chairs and tables around, pushing carts to the snack bars, etc. It woke us up every morning. We complained to Guest Services and the concierge, which did help some, but it was not totally quiet.

I don't know how the noise is in the rooms ending in 32 or 34, but I would research what is over you before booking ANY room on deck 8. We have a 3 day booked for Feb and opted for a cat 5 to get away from the overhead noise. The 7 day we have booked for April, 2004 is in a Cat 4 under the hair salon, so hopefully it will be quiet.

If Disney does build another ship, I hope they take noise into account. No one, in any category, should have to put up with that kind of noise on vacation.

Just my 2 cents worth.......

$4500 for a 3 day cruise? Wow now I know why I book a CAT9, and still pay more because we only cruise in the summer. 2 adults - 2 children 7 day $4300. If I spent that kind of money for 3 days I would never leave the room. I think I will stick to our CAT9 and never get spoiled and cruise every year like we have for the past 3 years 2000 (4 day), 2001 (7 day), 2002 (7 day), and have 2003 (7 day)booked.

We upgraded from a 4 to a 3 at the port 3 times. Each time we were in a handicapped room and have stayed in 3 of the 4 rooms on the very back of the ship (8100, 8600, 8602). Being the back of the ship, both the room and verandah were bigger due to the curve in the back. The verandah in 8602 had 2 tables, 8 sitting chairs (we ate breakfast there) and 2 lounge chairs and enough extra room for a marching band. We found 8100 and 8600 to be bigger inside and still have a VERY large verandah. Both rooms were very nice and extremely roomy. All this for a very reduced upgrade charge at the port. But, you won't know about availability and will be taking a chance if you really want it. We will always ask for this upgrade. To us, it is worth it. Have fun!!

Thanks everyone! DisneyKids, I like the way you do it and think maybe I will just keep our cat. 6 for now and maybe at Port try to upgrade. What months were your cruise? We are cruising the 3 night in Aug. 2003.

Also how much less was the upgrade at port? I always heard you may upgrade at port, but did not know it was a reduced rate. Thanks for that tidbit!

I went into 8120, cat 3 a couple of weeks ago. I tell you, you could easily fit sixty people on the verandah alone...

My brother, sister in law, his 6 kids, mother, mother in law, my 3 kids, my wife and I are in 3 catagory 3's in february. They have 8532 and 8534 and I have 8546.

Love hearing about the catagory 3's and concierge service.
Can't wait!!

You have the EXACT same setup my family had last year for the July 7 01 cruise - I was in 8546 with my family; my brother & his family were in 8532 and my sister, her family & my mom were in 8534 (12 ppl in 3 cat 3 cabins). Here are a few tips:

the plug-in for the vanity is on the wall behind it; you have to remove a drawer to access it (upper right hand drawer). Bring an extension cord, or a power strip.

the light switch for the veranda is behind a curtain

there is a trash can at the wet bar; you have to push aside one of the dining chairs to open the cabinet it's in

the cabinet the refrigerator is in has its hinges opposite the hinges on the referigerator. You have to open the refrigerator from the top of its door, or you will scrape your knuckles on the door hinge every time.

beware the step up into the bathrooms

if you use the sofabed, you can't access the veranda door in the sitting room & you have to lay down on the bed to use the CD player or other stereo equipment

Hope this helps!
