We had a CAT10 on our first two DCL cruises on the Wonder. We upgraded to a CAT6 for our Eastern Magic last year. We are now booked for the Magic in November in a CAT7. Will that be a disappointment after having the full open veranda.

I'm sorry you were disappointed. I like the open verandahs too

I was actually upgraded to a category 4 on my last cruise but I had the same kind of verandah you did. I couldn't sit on the verandah and watch (I'm too short) I liked the category 6 I booked better where there was plexiglass on the verandah and I could see the ocean without standing up.

I hope your next cruise is better!!!

Next time we go on DCL. I think I'm going to bring a Squeegee (SIC) that I can use to get all of the sea spray off of the outer plexiglass but my wife and I are spoiled and really prefer having the open verandah. - Mike

The OP hasn't had a cat7 yet .. they booked one for an upcoming cruise and they're asking WILL they be disappointed.

I don't know honestly, since we haven't had an "open" verandah ourselves .. we prefer the cat7 though because the partial enclosure protects us from the elements (i.e. RAIN). :)

My personal feeling is that for the price, I'd rather go with a category 7. We always book on deck 7, so we're essentially getting a category 5 with an enclosed verandah, but the savings ends up being about $600. I don't feel like the view is that obstructed, but again, that's just me.

If you're booked in a category 7 and are worried you won't like it as much as your previous category 6, check to see if rooms 7120, 7620, 6134, or 6634 are available. These are booked as category 7 rooms, but were previously category 5 and 6. They were re-classified due to the fact that there's a slight obstruction. They do offer a much less obstructed view than the standard category 7's. We shoot for these now when booking.

Also, with a category 7 to depends on which ship you are on as to how big the hole is. The Wonder has an oval shaped opening and the Magic has a pothole sized opening.
