Cat -vacation?

We just left our cat for 7 days. Someone came once to check on him. Our cat does not like people. It really doesn't even like us. We can go DAYS without seeing him unless we search the house (he can usually be found hiding under the bed in the spare room).

10 days is a little long but we aren't horrible people and our cat doesn't suffer.

I feel okay leaving my cats for 3 nights, but after that I hire a sitter. I think they'd actually keep themselves amused if left alone longer, but it's the litter box I worry about. It would be gross!

When we go for long trips, I hire a cat sitter to come in every 2 days for fresh food/water and to scoop the litter.
