I am thinking of changing my cats food (dry and wet) due to the fact that my boy cat could possibly be allergic to chicken..so what do you feed your cats dry and wet...TIA

We switched to Halo it is Salmon or Sea Food Medely ones it is Holistic & organic. I bought it becuase it was the smallest kibble I could find but she is doing really well on it no more throwing up. She is 17. and for wet I have been feeding her regular tuna in water. If you sign up at Halo's website you get coupons I buy it at Petco.

If you're concerned about allergies, I would recommend starting with a Grain-free product, in addition to eliminating chicken. I use Wellness canned grainfree. I had a friend who's cat was suspected of being allergic to chicken, her vet put him on venison for nearly a month. You can find venison cat food (as well as tons of other specialties) at www.petfooddirect.com.

Until you get down to the bottom of his allergy issues, I would avoid the standard commercial products found in your local grocery store. Most of them are full of fillers and by-products.

Admittedly, I'm a cat food snob. I read labels and would never buy something from a grocery store...or a pet store, for that matter.

I have nine Ragdolls so I have to buy large cans. One of my boys is allergic to turkey and chicken. Finally, after much searching, I found my solution - California Natural Venison. All nine love it, there are no allergy or digestive issues and, best of all, their health has been great since switching. I have to order it through www.petfooddirect.com But it's worth it to me.

Well, my cat is diabetic, so he's on special diabetic dry food. He gets about a teaspoon of wet food (Friskies Indoor Selects, loves the turkey & chicken and whitefish ones) as a treat after his nightly shots, so that's not of help to you.

However, my parents' yellow Lab is allergic to chicken and beef, so she's on an enormously expensive food that they have to order online--it's Royal Canin Potato and Rabbit formula, and she's done tremendouly well on it. All of her symptoms are gone. I don't know if RC makes cat food or not (the bag does specify "canine" on it, so maybe they do), but that might be worth a try. Good luck!

For some reason, our cats have all been strange eaters. Our last cat, which lived well past 15 years, was tiny and would only eat wet food. It also ate off of its paw - would not stick its face into the bowl. After scooping a bit and eating, it would shake the rest off of its paw (huge mess). Very strange cat.

Our current cat will only eat dry food. Won't touch table scraps or wet food. Will let it sit for days, going hungry, if we do not put out dry food. Obviously we stopped trying to get it to eat anything else long ago.

No brand name help - always used the standard store brands - whatever was on sale...

Royal Canin makes cat food they make many varieties, and the food is excellent. I have two cats and they only eat Royal Canin. Years ago you could not buy it at a pet store, now however it is available at PetsMart & Petco.

Your venison would be the healthiest way to go. We use to give ours raw rabbit and also tried the venison. Now that we have 10 cats and our hours at work were cut we couldn't afford it. We use canned Fancy Feast now, but only stick to a couple of flavors. We don't buy any with fish in it. Lots of cats are allergic to fish and two of ours are.

I too read labels and look like a crazy person in the pet food store...I was buying them wellness but it is chicken so now I have to change...thanks for the help

I recently switched my fosters over to Royal Canin dry food for kittens (because I only foster kittens). It is expensive, but they tend to eat less (for kittens we suggest dry food be down all the time, but they just seem to fill up faster), and their poo doesn't seem to smell (within reason). I switched when I had some fosters that were in rough shape, on the advice of another person who fosters, and I won't look back. I do understand, because of the price, the adopters may not keep them on it, but I feel I'm giving them a good start. I have seen kittens from the same litter be split among foster homes and reunited at adoption clinics, and I really do see a difference in the coats of my fosters in comparison to those on other, less expensive food.

For a treat (and because our vet feels cats should have both dry and wet food), I give them a teaspoon of Fancy Feast kitten food, as long as they are healthy in the morning and evening. Boiled chicken, rice with non fat chicken stock if not.
