We bought a big, gorgeous real tree this year. It smells wonderful. We decorated it last night.

This morning, I wake up and discover my cat laying in the middle of the tree! When I got her out of it, she left a big gap. I don't know how but she didn't break any ornaments. How do I keep the cat out of the Christmas tree? :confused3

Oh I don't know how to keep it out but how cute is this story? I'm sure that is easy for me to say since it isn't my cat or tree;)

My two cats just sit under it on the tree skirt.

One of our cats LOVES crawling up our tree. As of now, I have not had much luck keeping her out of it. Last year, our other cat would sit underneath our tree and guard it. Anytime Bogart would get near it, Linus would swat her away. This year, Linus has better things to do...like sleep.

If they like trees, you can't.:sad2:

My mother used to tie our trees to the ceiling with fishing line after our cats knocked them down numerous times.

I now have a fatty that loved the tree last year. I think he's too big this year to get his hiney up very far this year.;)

It appears from what other people are saying, you'd be best off leaving the cat to enjoy the "middle" of the tree and even take a few pictures. You'll probably look back on it later, tell stories about it and laugh. :santa:

This cat is a fatty too. Our tree is close to a countertop and I think she's going from the countertop into the tree.

You can't,my big fat kitty thinks she is in the jungle every xmas. She acts crazy.(or as my dd says "she has the goya beans in her"!:lmao: )You could use a water gun when she goes near the tree.

Our frequently-visiting kitty has zero interest in climbing the tree or batting the ornaments. So far. Knock on wood. I started with the squirting the second she went near it - dunno if that helped or not. There's no predicting that flippin cat's behavior - she's nuts.

But she does feel the need to attack the tree skirt. And everyone will be receiving pre-chewed presents this year. The corners must seem tasty.

Another Diser posted that putting tin foil around the tree will help. I tried that, but she went over it. I think we'd have to put down enough foil to cover a martian rocketship...and certainly the family room would look like one.

Best of luck!

Our cat used to drink the water from the tree. She never got sick, which surprised me. Now we have dogs and don't get a tree. I figured it took me so long to train them to pee outside on trees, they would get confused.:confused3

We just stopped having a Christmas tree. Too many disasters with cats. Maybe after this group dies I can have a tree. There will be no replacement of the cats as I am now allergic to them anyway and on medication.

I have an Artificial one this year, that way the Doxie doesn't pee on it.:headache: My cat, has no interest as she is busy ripping her hair out in patches on different parts of her body.:rolleyes1 This is a long time tradition in my family, we have cats that after they reach a certain age, go NUTS and rip thier hair out.:confused3
