Cat Issues Redux

And to end the night on a better note, I gave her this soupy treat thing with meat and she gobbled it pretty hard. I need to get some more of those!

Well, yesterday seemed a bit better, but she didn't touch much food overnight (if at all). I am wondering if something has impacted her sense of smell, possibly the infection. She has had two doses of antibiotic at this point and we continue the nausea meds. She was a tad more energetic than usual last night, owing mostly to her "friend" cat (whom she hates) dropping by the window!

She has had two doses. I know that it should kick in after 3 days, so I am hoping, but she just seems off this morning. She is not interested in treats or her dry food at all. The vet looked at her teeth and they looked okay, so we don't think that's it.

Just a note - she's still not doing great. Okay-ish maybe - she did eat a bunch of treats and some tuna this morning though, so that's something. I might grab some kitten food to see if she might like some of that.

Are you still waiting on some test results? I can't recall if the vet was able to pin-down the cause of her issues. At least she's eating, but I know you want her back to 100%

Have you tried heating her food a little? Maybe she can't smell it as well... heating it a bit can help with that (tuna is pretty smelly... might be why she went for it).

You could also try some baby food. The meat flavors in the jars often go over well with a cat that doesn't feel good. Read the labels... you don't want any onion or garlic. Those can be heated a bit, too.

Be careful with the tuna, assuming you mean human tuna and not cat food tuna. Too much is not good for cats. I found that out the hard way. When my older cat wouldn't eat I feed him tuna and he loved it. Unfortunately it cause more issues. Lesson learned on that.

I've only given her a little bit at a time. I picked up a can of kitten food to see if she'll eat that. None of this is long term. Right now teh magic seems to be a can of the regular pro-plan pate style food mixed with some hot water - just drops from the faucet. She's taking that well today

Be careful with switching out her food too much. Unless you've been doing that regularly already, switching to new foods could create tummy and poopy problems if the foods are introduced to quickly and it too much of a variety. You don't want to accidentally add to her problems. Sorry she's going through this.

When our puppy had worms and needed to be dewormed for a second time her appetite was almost nothing so we found an appetite stimulating food from Royal Canin at the local pet store. I don't see that for cats but I did find a version out there that maybe you can get from your Vet for a few days, it's called Hill's prescription diet ONC Care Chicken and Vegetable Stew Wet Cat Food. No harm in asking the Vet especially if you are worried. My Vet is generally easy going and has a whatever works sort of attitude unless it is dangerous.

Well, I've been a little quiet about it and just keeping on with meds and trying to get her eating. I'd say she may have improved some, but she is still having diarrhea. She "hunted" her toy early this morning, which is a good sign! She hasn't done that in a while.

Today is the ultrasound so that will give us more information, but things are a little better anyway.
