We spent our first theme park day in IOA, and after the Carosuessel, the next thing my dd (3.5) fancied was Cat in the Hat.
I assumed that this was a kids ride and would be ok, but in the middle it get's quite scary - it's v. dark, spins quickly and there are bright flashes. She was terrified.

I have never read anywhere about this being a scary ride and wondered if mine was the only child who found this overwhelming. She also didn't like the HannaBarbara ride at universal (in the stationary seats), and we didn't find anything suitable for her at either park. (Although she loved the Barney show)

Well, in "Universal Orlando" I do say "a few more timid tykes might find the swoops and spins of the ride vehicles a bit startling."

Perhaps I should strengthen the warning in the next edition.

My two are slightly older at 4 and 6 but they LOVED cat in the Hat! They made me go on it with them again and again and again...... in the end I was scared of it!!
However my 4 yo was scared on the Peter Pan ride at Disney. Different kids are upset by different things I guess.

Kelly, I wish I'd read that - I checked quite a few guidebooks which all seemed to say 'Everything in Suess Landing is ok' so I assumed it would be.

Next time you and your children ride Cat in the Hat, just tell the attendant loading your couch to not allow your ride vehicle to spin.

Yes, it's a little known (and unadvertised) option for families. It's a simple procedure, and allows the ride vehicle to go through the entire ride, WITHOUT spinning even once. It's a great thing for smaller kids who might be a little afraid.

;)

I have four kids, the 2 and 4 year old were scared and the 6 and 7 year old weren't (it was the 6 y.o. favorite ride)
