Okay...that adorable little Candi of mine is for sale. Any takers???? I can't believe what she has done and if anyone has any ideas I would love to have them.

About two weeks ago, I had been gone on a weekend day. DH was home alone with the cat. Said cat was upstairs with the run of the house basically. A few days later I go to water my HUGE, I am not exaggerating, Poinsetta plant and about half of the branches, with nice strong and green leaves, were laying all over the floor near the plant. All I could think of was she had eaten alot of the leaves and she was gonna be really sick (I know it can hurt them if they eat A LOT of the leaves, I have checked on this). So I asked dh if he had seen her near the plant and he hadn't. So the next day, dh happened to catch her - get this - SHE WAS JUMPING INTO THE PLANTER AND LAYING ON THE PLANT!!!!! Little - word inserted here that I shouldn't say on the boards - !!! Well she has kept at it to the point that my plant is almost all gone. I have had this Poinsetta for 8 years and it has been a pride of mine to be able to keep it alive and to see it bloom without having to put it dormant or anything. This is just really killing me. (I know, there are worse things in the world but this plant meant alot to me)

So last night as she is terrorizing my plant I was on the phone with a friend. She suggested putting aluminum foil in the planter because cats hate touching it. Well, guess who tried to get the foil out of the planter this morning.....you probably got it!!!!! UGH

So besides crucifying the cat for Easter....does anyone have any suggestions. And the little snot then tried to suck up to me last night and this morning by snuggling up and rubbing against my leg. I wanted to boot her across the room so bad......and I'm generally not an evil person!!!!

You might try sprinkling some red or black pepper around the soil at the base of the plant.

Yep, what Dandave said -- cayanne pepper works well. Does she react to the squirt bottle? If so, squirt her SEVERAL times the next time you catch her there!
I know how you feel -- my sister potted some ivy from my wedding bouquet for me, and it's the only part of the bouquet I kept. Evil Tycho took it out from under the blinds -- how he managed to get under them, I don't know! But I was mad at him for days... I'm still trying to salvage what's left of the ivy.

Good luck!! Marcy loves my houseplants and NOTHING stops her--I've tried it all!! I have to keeping moving them higher up b/c she figures out how to get to the new spots!! I'm quickly running out of spots! LOL

The joys of a kitten, eh?! ;)

Ship her to my house, I don't have any plants. :)

Move the plant. ;)

Seriously, you should put it somewhere that she can't get. Either in a room she's not allowed in (because the door is closed) or up on a height that she can't jump on, or outside, or hanging *high* near the ceiling...

Yep. Can't have any plants in this house either. My cat eats them all. The squirt bottle works well, but only if I'm around to do the squirting - otherwise, it's hopeless.

i think owning a pet is a lot like having a child. if you are really committed to having one, then you are going to have to make some sacrifices to your routine.

i agree with moving the plant.

we use dto have a similar problem with our dog. my mom used to say that having a pet was worse than having a kid b/c at least the kid eventually grows up. LOL :p

Well moving the plant higher is not an option...the planter alone is at least a foot wide and stands about 1 1/2 feet tall...that's how large this Poinsetta has gotten!!!

The pepper is an option....I might have to try that....

Oh and DG...yeah - the joys of owning a kitten....now I wish we WOULD have gotten an outside cat!!!! :D (kidding guys, kidding)

catsrule.....um $1!!!!! But you have drive here to get her and take her home!!!! ;) Gotta have a reason for another DIS meet!!! ROFL

his name was Sir Chester Yak of Pearl Harbor......well yak was a digger......have a plant and he would dig the plant out of the pot and soil and then sit there and play with the dirt......has to be an indoor cat thing......hahah.....good luck

Hey I got a dollar! Maybe I should take a drive this weekend? hhhhmmmmmmmmmm

She will do FINE here in Miami! Shipping info needed....:o

I can't imagine anyone would think that was funny.:(
