Wow, this is news to me.

Me too. My gripe..... Why do they have to close a Disney owned restaurant to do this when there are plenty of empty venu's at DTD that could have been used. I really have the feeling that in a few years we may not even have a Disney owned restaurant option anymore! The parking situation at the Boardwalk is already a mess, why add to it?

The new restaurant is going to be Disney owned and operated. Cat is only contributing to the concept and menu offerings from what I have read.

She did have her own show for a while.....but I think it got axed. It was a show where she fixed up/rehabbed people's kitchens......and at the end of each episode she taught the owners how to prepare certain meals.

Thats news to me. The only show of "her own" I've seen in the Disney What's Cooking with Cat Cora. I know she was in production for the Cat Cora Show, but I don't think it made it past that. Was it a episode or a series? THere was a Food Network show like the one you mention, one epsisode featured her, one Paula Deen, one Alton Brown, and I don't remember the rest.

MM, I think that what you are thinking of was actually part of a contest. FN had a kitchen redesign contest, Kitchen Accomplished was the name, if memory serves, where they looked a view submitted "bad" kitchens and then had a celebrity chef go out and redesign the kitchen. I know that Paula Deen did one of these and I seem to remember Cat doing one too. I didn't care for the concept of the show, so I can't fully remember everything about it.

That's outsourced though! The new Disney way of doing things: let someone else do all the work and just collect rent.

I'm surprised that they're actually going to run this new joint enterprise with C.C. The trend lately has been for them to let whatever mediocre third party they can find run things.

Yeah because Disney's standardization is working really well too...

Personally Disney needs to get back into running their parks really well along with their DVC properties. Keep their movie house (Disney and Pixar) in order and then jetison off their other interests to third parties with contracts that require certain levels of performance standards.

If I worked for Disney I would be one of those people (I'm a financial analyst) and I think the problem is Disney has gotten too big, and in most people's eyes its a too big to fail situation, but think about how well that worked for AIG, Citi and ING. Disney has too many drivers asking for money, if they spun off the operations, either into seperate companies or sold off the rights with performance agreements, they could focus back on the core, free up capital, and let the good prosper and bad falter without it dragging down everything else in their portfolio (or making cuts in non-related areas to help offset the faltering).

Hmmm, she doesn't look familiar and we even watch the food network from time to time. I guess not enough. Maybe it's because we're drooling over Rocco Dispirito all the time or something.

Plus, I'm just not a foodie. You're right food is the last thing I would EVER book a trip for. I only eat food to survive. Not a big food fan. I love the experience of dining, but that's it. Food is nothing but sustinance for me and nothing more. Now, I have a few favorite things, but that's it.

Yeah, and the sad thing is that I eat constantly and can't gain a pound.

I just read about the pregnancy. I am confused though as to why the switching of the embryos? why would they not want to know who is the biological mother? what if a medical need arose that having that knowledge would be useful for? I get they don't want to distinguish the kids as hers and mine maybe? but I just don't get why not know?
and why carry each others?

I saw a good 6 or 7 episodes where it was only Cat Cora doing the show.....so I just assumed it was her show. The other episodes I saw where Paula, Alton and Bobby were doing the kitchens seemed a bit different, and I only saw the other hosts do one show each, whereas Cat did several. Either way......the show/shows we're talking about didn't last too long.

I actually "get" the switching of the embryos thing. First of all, they didn't necessarily switch -- they just put their eggs in together to be fertilized and then implanted them without knowing who was getting whose. I see it as a way for them to have "their" biological children-- with each being equally bound to each child, regardless of who carried and birthed that child. A sort of double commitment to their family. I'm sure you've all heard the horror stories of lesbian couples who have split up and the one who birthed and carried the child claims to be the "true" mother, while cutting the other mother off at the knees. Our legal system can't be counted upon to protect our families in situations like that (although they sometimes do, it's not a given by any means). I can certainly understand the motivation of this couple -- not only are they saying in a very profound way that no matter the origin of the original egg that those children are "theirs" and not "mine," but they are also protecting their family for the long haul by making that kind of irreversible decision at this point. Kind of a blood oath.

Re: in the rare case of a medical emergency down the road which may require the knowledge of biological origin, we have dna testing that can make that knowledge available if it's needed.
