They have little bite marks all over the lens and bows. This cat has always had a "thing" for her glasses. She took them back to Lenscrafters and they can't fix them. They also won't let her order a new pair since her 'script is slightly over a year.:sad2:

I've never heard of a cat doing this.

Mine has a thing for anything that smells like my hair, my glasses included. I have huge problems keeping him out of the bathroom cabinet where I keep hairbrushes, ponytail holders, headbands, etc. I've tried changing hair products, but that apparently isn't it -- he is after the smell of my hair.

They make $8 glasses. Do a search on the Budget Board. There are a gazillion threads for how great the quality of glasses everyone has gotten for such a cheap price. :thumbsup2 Her cat can eat as many glasses as it wants this way.

I got two pairs with very strong prescriptions before I got Lasik eye surgery. Now, I may get a pair or cheap reading glasses from them. :magnify:

Wow, thanks for this link!! My DD13 wears contacts, and the insurance will only pay for contacts OR glasses, and she prefers contacts, but needs glasses as a back-up (and so she can see her way to the bedroom after she takes her contacts out at night!) and they are now several prescriptions out of date. She has her annual visit this week! I'll be sure and ask the doctor for her glasses prescription now!

Speaking of my eye doctor, she has a strict rule about glasses: "On the face, or in the case." I thought it was so they wouldn't get knocked off a table and broken, but wow, I never thought of a cat chewing on them. Yikes! I hope she is able to get a new pair soon!

My sister has cats that do this so I have to be really careful when I spend the night.

And funny someone else should mention hair. One of her cats loves to groom my mother's hair.:lmao:

Sorry the cat chewed on her glasses, but if she's willing to spend the money on a new pair why would Lenscrafters not be willing to let her order new ones? :confused3 Or is she not willing to spend the money, but insurance won't pay for them, is that it?

By law, they are supposed to provide you with a written prescription if you ask. make sure you get the P.D. number, too. (Pupil distance.) That's usually the one they leave off.

You might not want to mention Zenni, in case they hem & haw about giving you the prescription. A lot of doctors hate losing the hundreds of $$$ they would be making if they simply hand out the prescription, instead of making people think they have to get their glasses from them instead.

As for sizing of frames, measure the size frame DD has now. Then you will have a rough estimate. I've also gone to the dollar store and bought $1 frames in the absolute largest size that look good on me, and the smallest size. This gave me a ball park range to choose from, when I finally ordered from Zenni for frames.

My cats chew on pretty much anything - they love paper though. They have chewed on sandles, flip flops, leather shoes, etc. They are as bad as our Morkie we have.

I bet they wouldn't honor this because then they can "get ya" for another eye exam". Ka-tching!!! (supposed to be the cash-register sound...but it doesn't look right!)

mine like to "munch" on hairbrushes, table legs, suckle on blankets.... there sassy but ive learned to hide things. Right now I need to go buy some child proof locks for bathroom cabinte since Balllieee learned to open the door with her paws/

Thanks for the advice! :thumbsup2

I think DD's doc will work with me, as we've been using her for 12 years (because DH and I are both VERY nearsighted, we started seeing a ped. opthamologist before DD was a year old) and they are aware that I won't spend more than my insurance allows - lol.

In fact, this year we have used all the money in our spending account, (unforseen medical expenses) but I don't want to lose my vision benefit for '09 so I already called and made sure DD could have the exam now, but wait to order her contacts in January, so I can get the $$ for them from my 2010 spending account. And yes, I can. :thumbsup2

FCM - your cats can open cabinet doors? Oh, wow, I'd be in HUGE trouble if my cats learned to do that!

My cat likes to bite my Crocs! I have to hide them from him!:lmao:

Zenni took 3 months to get me my son's glasses. They ship out of China and packages can get caught up in customs for forever. When I called, the customer service was nonexistent, seemed like one guy who had no idea what was going on. Seriously, I called every hour for three days in a row and got a voice mail that wouldn't let me leave a message because it was FULL!

Anyway, I ordered from this company http://www.39dollarglasses.com/
Glasses came in three days and they were made in and shipped from the good old US of A.

There is a coupon here for $12 off a pair as well....

Wow, thank you!!

I know about the China thing. The dining room furniture we ordered in July (thinking it would surely be here by September, not realizing it was coming from China) is STILL sitting on a container ship someplace. :sad2:

I used to have a cat who, we decided, had a severe cellulose deficiency in her diet. She left teeth marks on every wooden spoon we had in the kitchen. She would eat pages from the daily newspaper (this was very disconcerting when I was trying to read the paper at breakfast), and practically anything else with soft wood or paper.

Every year for Christmas we would give her a balsa wood airplane. The vet said it was OK as there were actually no sharp splinters. It would take her about six months to eat the whole thing, all that would be left would be the metal weight at the front of the plane for balance.

Our dear little Apple (:cat:) likes to chew on the ear pieces of DH's glasses. He used to leave his glasses on his nightstand when he wasn't wearing them and finally had to start keeping them in the nightstand (like I'd been telling him to do all along....) so a certain someone couldn't get them. She's never bugged mine but than again, I've never left them where she could get them.

She also loves to bite through (not chew, just bite through and leave teeth marks) paper and cardboard. We call it "cleaning her teeth".

Pets chewing on and destroying good stuff is so annoying!

I just found out that our darling "puppy" chewed on DS's fairly new XBox 360 headset and ruined it.

Stupid dog! He's 7 years old and should have outgrown being destructive. He mostly has, but every once in a while, we get a nasty surprise like this. And he has plenty of stuff he's allowed to chew on. There are cow ears and rawhides hidden in every nook and cranny of this house.

Oh, yes the Xbox headsets AND the earbuds for MP3 players/Ipods are toast if they are left out at my house:lmao:

Marsha

Ate the glasses as in actually swallowed parts? Or did you mean just chewed on them?

If actually ATE the glasses, PLEASE take the cat to your vet ASAP.

Yea they really like the little one under the bathroom sink (with female goodies, that they love to play with!!)
Torin- My cat eats my crocs too! there living in the refrigator now.
My one cat likes to bite and chew on everyone unless they pet her. Its annoying but she was an abused kitten (missing her two fang teeth) so I try not to get too mad.

I started buying really cheap earbuds practically by the dozen. I go to sleep listening to my ipod. I'd forget to put it up in the morning, and my puppy would eat the earbuds. He also ate a couple of the wires to my good Bose headphones - but Bose was great about replacing them for free even when I was honest about my dog eating them - not their fault.

I think Breaux has passed that stage as I noticed that I've actually worn out a pair of earbuds before they were devoured.
