We are currently booked into two Category 9 cabins in November. When looking at allseastravel I found I could upgrade both rooms for a total of $730.00

In your opinion is it worth it?

If it were for regular verandas I wouldn't hesitate, but it is for Navigators and I am not sure if it is worth that much money just to have an "open" window and a verandah that is enclosed.

I was looking for info from those that have cruised in either/or/both.

Thanks

I did excactly what you're proposing last week with Allseas.
I upgraded from Cat 9 to Cat 7 but got one of the 4 Secret Verandah rooms. These are former Cat 6 rooms that have been changed to Cat. 7 as they have a partial obstruction. If you look at http://www.castawayclub.com there are some great photos of the room, location and you can see they are a GREAT deal.
We felt exactly the same way about the navigator's verandah but these are the full verandah with plexiglass.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Grumbo

I wish we could do that, but we have two rooms and there aren't two of those rooms together.

This will be my mom's first time to travel since my dad died and I am sure that she would want to be near us and not across the ship or on another floor.

Plus, I don't even know if they are available on our date.

I loved the Navigators Veranda- we went last May 25 and thought it was well worth it- BUT you do know that they only sleep 3!! Regrdless you will enjoy

If youre questioning do it and do it NOW

at least call and check on what's available
is there a secret verandah next to a closed in verandah?
or anything that has 2 diff types verandah's next to ea other?
how about a cat 8 next to a cat 7?
im not looking at my book but ask about that too

There are no category 8's next to category 7's. All of the cat. 8's are forward, the cat. 7's aft. They (the 7's) have either a category 6 or 5 next to them (or another 7).

I do think this is worth doing. I actually prefer the category 7's to the 6's or 5', just because of the price, but verandah is just as big, and you still get plenty of air, in my opinion.

I guess one of my big questions is are they very light and airy or are they kind of dark because of the porthole only?

The porthole is pretty big, probably 5' in diameter, probably bigger than that on the Wonder. You get a pretty good breeze sitting out there. Here's a link to some pictures of them.

This link will take you to the same page as Senor Ferrari's, but without the annoying pop-up ads:
http://www.disneycruiser.info/nverand.htm

The other link goes to our mirror site that is hosted on a free service, and their ads are obnoxious! But it's in a lot of search engines, so we are stuck keeping it around. Disneycruiser.info is a paid host, so no pop-up there :D

Bump!

Still looking for opinions. It just looks a little dark to me in the navigator's and it seems to darken the room too.

like they said we had one of the 4 rooms that was recently downgraded from 6 to cat 7 and think if u could get one of those 4 rooms it would be well worth extra money ,
i donot know about NAV. Verandah , but from what i read most poeple like them peter we had room 7620 was great

how does the window opening in the navigator's compare to the portholes in cat 9? larger or smaller? do you end up with more or less light? obviously more air

On the Magic, they are about the same size. If anything, the open-air window on the Navigator's verandah is a little larger than the porthole window. Possibly the same size, but definitely not smaller. On the Wonder, they are much bigger than the porthole window in an oceanview stateroom.

The pictures on Barb's site seem to have been taken while the ship was in Port Canaveral, and on the port side of the ship. In any case, the sun seemed to be on the other side, that could give the effect that it's dark. I never thought so.
