Quick question...

Last September, we were on the Wonder 4-night. We had a cat 11, and my DB, SIL, and their DD's had a secret porthole room. They loved it, but said that there was a light on outside the window 24/7.

I've now booked a 7-night Magic cruise for next year, and I have a cat 9 on deck 2. Will there be a light on outside, or is this just with the secret porthole rooms because of the equipment outside? (I'm assuming there are no lights outside of the cat 8 and 9 rooms, but I just want to be sure.)

Thanks!

Hi ChrizJen - I'm in a Cat 8 on the 9/30 Wonder - on Deck 6 - there is no deck area underneath my porthole so there is no light outside it - I'm pretty sure if the portholes are flush against the side of the ship like that? There are no lights - only if there's a deck space with equipment people have to get to.

Hope that helps.

We too are booked in a SPH for a 7-night next year. It's my understanding that there is a light on 24/7 and that you may see crew members working out there on the equipment. There are heavy curtains you can pull over to block out light and/or to prevent being seen by the crew!

Yes, lights are on in the area of the SPH rooms, there are 6 of those rooms. All other portholes are not effected. (that is one of the reason why it is sold as Cat 11 instead of 8)

We were just in room 2128 last week. I'm not sure if it was a light on the boat or the moon's reflection, but there was light coming in the window every night. There are curtains to cover it up though. The curtains don't meet completely in the middle, though, so I would bring a clip or something to hold them together.

Thanks for your replies! I figured that the reason for the lights outside of the SPH rooms was so the safety equipment could easily be accessed 24 hours a day. That's what I wanted to know! Thanks!

Hey "Lopezgang" - we leave this Sat (9/25) and will be in room 2128!!! I hope you enjoyed your trip. I'm sooo excited, I can't wait! Thanks for the window info. Does that room have a double bed and a double sized pull-out sofa? Any tips you can give me would be much appreciated (this is my first time on the Magic). Thanks!

ChrizJen, DW and I have had cat 9 rooms on deck 2 both of our previous 2 cruises. I can tell you for sure NO this no light outside your porthole. We also kept our drapes closed. However, at night when we returned to the room, I would look out the porthole. I definitely did not notice any light. The only drawback to deck 2 is that it is not real close to deck 9 or deck 10, where a lot of the action is. For me it is not a drawback, since I spend most of the time on deck 3 and deck 4.

DPC....I am also on the 9/25 Magic!!!! FYI...the sofa beds are not pull out sofa beds that hotels have. The bed does not "pull out"...it is just flipped over and made a single bed.
