How are the 7A cabins on Deck 5? And how do they compare to the ones on Deck 7? Specifically, some on Deck 7 are the secret verandahs, but I'm not sure what the difference is.

The 7A rooms are the Navigator's verandah rooms. Unlike the typical verandah, which is basically a balcony(open to the outside), these verandahs are semi enclosed. There is a large porthole opening that's open to the outside:

So what makes some "secret" verandahs?

I don't know. I've heard that term used interchangeably for the Navigator's verandahs. Maybe because they don't look much like a verandah when looking at the outside of the ship?

With a little more research, I've discovered the secret verandahs are reclassified Cat 5s. They are not the enclosed navigator's verandahs but a regular verandah with a slight obstruction.

The obstruction is very slight - one side of the balcony has a slanted piece above your head and down one side a bit. It's actually nice to have the extra wind break on the Alaska sailings....

I'm nervous about the regular 7As. Does it get hot and stuffy out there when it's hot since the area is so enclosed? And would I be right you can't really see anything if you're sitting down?

We had a true navigators verandah for Alaska and loved it. I don't remember it being "stuffy" however yes it's true you really do need to stand up to see out. The bottom is completely covered and of course you can see the sky but to see the water you would need to stand. We didn't mind this for Alaska and loved it but YMMV :)

We've had a secret verandah room for 3 out of our last 4 cruises. I have one booked for Norway next year too. We love them. But, shhh, they are a secret! There are only 4 of them and they are only on decks 6 and 7.

We booked a 7a for Norway because the weather in Norway in June can still be chilly. We figure we can be outside looking at the scenery this way, with the enclosed part helping to block the wind/chilly weather. A regular verandah might get really cold!

Cabins 6634, 6134, 7620 and 7120 are the secret verandah cabins. They are classified as 7a cabins. They used to be cat 5 cabins but some guests complained about the obstruction when they were paying full price for a cat 5. So DCL reclassified them as 7a's. The obstruction on those cabins is slight and they have an open railing wall rather than the solid wall for most cat 7a's. Here's a photo of 6634. The secret verandah rooms on deck 7 would have a little more obstruction at the top but would still have an open railing.

We are booked in this room, 6634, for our January cruise on the Wonder. :cool1: We lucked into it and now can't wait to see it in person. We have never been on the Wonder.

We have also stayed in 6634 and it's a fabulous stateroom. We have it booked again for the Cabo next year!
Deck 6 has less obstruction and, in case you're visiting Castaway Cay, the starboard staterooms have the better view (6634 for one)!!

We've been in 7120 once and 6634 once. Love the Secret Veranda rooms!

So excited to see this - We will be in 6634 on the Wonder this coming Monday to Alaska!! :cool1:

Thanks for posting the picture!

Thanks for the great pictures. We are booked in stateroom 5132 on the Wonder in September for the DD cruise. Can't wait. I love getting to see the actual verandah on the ship.

We're in 7A on the 6th deck on the Magic in Dec. I can't wait.

I've got gall stones (maybe) right now  and should be all better in Dec. Yea I'm feeling sorry for myself right now.:worried::sad1:
