Other than the price what is the difference??

Only the deck they are located on. Exactly the same room and verandah.

Go with the 6. Better value.

I believe another difference between 5 and 6 is that the cabin is about 5 feet longer at the end where the veranda door is. This gives room for a "murphy" bed on the wall, which can be pulled down to accomodate another person (child). I think I also remember having another chair. We were upgraded from a 6 to 5 when we went last June. I booked a 6 on subsequent cruises because there just wasn't much difference.

Nope, they are exactly the same. The pulldown berth is available in some cabins, in both category 5 and 6. Passporter has a list.

The Cat. 4 has the murphy bed and can accomodate 5 people.

OK - now I'm totally confused. I booked a CAT 6 and was told it sleeps 4. What kind of beds am I getting?

Thanks:bored:

I have sailed 3 times in a cat. 6 and we have one booked for the Dec. 4th Western but.......now we are thinking of switching to the Thanksgiving cruise and all that is left is a cat. 5. Same with the transfer sailing in May.

The category 4 is the only category with a murphy bed. That allows it to sleep 5 passengers. The 5 and 6 are identical, as are the 10,9,8, and 7. The bedding is the large bed, a single sleeper sofa(for the 3rd) and a bed that drops from the ceiling for the 4th. The sofa and ceiling beds form kind of a set of bunk beds against the wall. The murphy bed is NOT is a 5 or a 6.

Cat 4 has the murphy bed. Which, by the way, totally blocks access to the veranda.

Cat 5 and 6 are identical, just located on different floors.

We just recently sailed and we were on Deck 7 Cat 5 midship and we loved it...so convenient to everything.

O.K., one more question............So I get on DCLs web site because DDs might bring one friend each. So I figure I'll book an inside stateroom for them and a verandah for myself and DW. I put in 1 adult and 1 child for the verandah and 1 adult and 3 childeren in the cat 10 guess what?? cat. 6 is available!! Now like I said before we have sailed DCL 3 times befor in a cat 6.....I wasn't aware that some cat 6s sleep 3 and some 4.....is that true? Or are they saying 12 and 14 yos shouldn't sleep in the bunk?

It could be that if you looked at a cat. 6 for 4 people, none were available. Once you moved the 4th person out and into a different room, a category 6 for 3 people became an option. I bet that is what happened. Or could be someone cancelled, or a courtesy hold expired.

So some cat. 6s sleep only 3?......I was not aware.

Ron,
Some Cat 6 (and Cat 5 for that matter) sleep three and some sleep 4. I think it is driven by the total number of passengers the ship is allowed to carry.

Except for price, I think the biggest difference for you between Cat 5 and Cat 6 is that with Cat 5 you would have one more flight of stairs to crawl up from Diversions each night!!!!

Looks like you are moving your fall cruise up! Before, we were going to have to wave to you as we got off ours and you got on your cruise. Now you will have to wave to us as you leave!!!

We are going on the same Eastern as we all went on last year...11/27!!!
Bob

PS- If you need a weather forecast for your sailaway, let me know! I'm not doing one for ours!!!!

Hey Bob good to see ya on these boards again!!! Yep, the more we think of it the more we think that we have to move our sailing up. Jess is going to be in H.S. nexy year and mid terms here in Indiana are before Christmas. One week the week before could be rough on her. So yes, I think I am switching for the 2nd time.....from the 10 day to Dec 4 to this one. That's right one more flight of stairs to "crawl up" or one less to "stumble down" from signals. See Bob I always see it as half full. I'd ask ya for a weather prediction for Chicago on that Sat. to see if there is a storm going to be here.....but we all learned about weather predictor Bob last year!!LOL Yell all I said "hey"!

Ah ha!!! Now I understand...you see it as "half full" and its time to order another round!!!

That's right , at half way it's time to search for a refill.....that is if they aren't out of my flavor!!! LOL

 We have done three cruises in a Category Six. We won't book a room without a verandah. I love Category Six. They have a queen size bed and a couch that could easily sleep two small children or one teenager/adult.

Next year for the Panama Cruise, we ended up with a Category 5 for the simple reason that the only room we could get in Category 6 (by the time I got through on the phone) was on starboard side near the laundry room. Been there, done that -- and I definitely don't want to be near the laundry room on a 14-day cruise! So we took a room in Category 5 on port side. Exact same type room - the $200 difference in price comes from being one floor up only!
