Does anybody have any pictures of a cat4 stateroom with the murphy bed down. We are booked for another cruise in December of 2005 (Western this time) and want to see it looks like. We enjoy using our veranda at night and we know that the bed blocks the veranda door. We have some inventive ideas about putting the kids to bed then moving one to the murphy bed after we are finished using the veranda in the evenings, or even climbing over the youngest one to get out, but we would like to see some pics of the room with the bed down if anybody has some.

I don't have a picture I can post but the murphy bed does do a good job of blocking the door so that it would be very difficult to climb over a sleeping kid to get out without waking them. We always lifted the bed back to almost closed to get out the door so I'm not sure if there is even space to climb over in front of the door when the bed is down.

We decided it was just easier to have a kid sleep with me in the queen bed and have my DH sleep in the murphy bed so we could get in and out when we wanted without waking anyone. Even if you could move a kid after they fell asleep I would be afraid to move them in the morning because they were so tired they needed every second of sleep they could get.

The bed lies practically next to the door, so you'd have to lean over the bed and open the door and then climb over the bed to get out, directly onto the veranda. Also, the murphy bed will be pulled down by your cabin steward during turndown service, as it has a key lock to remove it from the wall. If you really want to use the veranda after putting the kids to bed, you'll have to put the child who sleeps in the murphy bed in the queen and climb over the bed. There are pictures of the room at www castawayclub com (insert the dots) but the bed isn't down. You'll see the area on the left of the picture, infront of the chair, that's where the murphy bed is stored. You'll also see how awfuly close it is to the veranda door, and how it is very difficult to use the veranda after this bed is pulled down.

We are staying in a Cat 4 also. We only have 4 people in our room. Will we not need both beds prepared. My oldest daughter wants to sleep on the bed over the sofa, while my youngest will be on the pull out sofa. I would rather leave the murphy bed in the wall so we will have more space. Should I request which bed we want to use or will they automatically use the one over the sofa?

Just curious.

Bopper, I'm sure if you talk to your room steward and tell him/her your preferences, they will comply.

We were in a category 4 Room 8036 on the magic this March and we had bunk beds that did NOT block the verandah at all! It was an awesome room. My 3 boys and I loved it. We were in a Cat 3 the cruise before that. So I guess we lucked out on the bunk beds or something. Oh yes, my mistake, now I remember I guess there was another bed but we just didn't need it becasue my youngest slept in the HUGE bed w/ me. Forget it then! We had an incredible time and want to book the Western again Spring Break 2006! Good Luck!

For our 10-day Christmas cruise coming up, we originally had a Cat 4 booked. We have a DD age 14, and DS 11. We had planned that one would be on the couch, an the other in the bed over head. I was not going to use the murphy bed for the above reasons. I get up before the rest of the gang, and like to have coffee on the verandah..no way was I going to climb over.
We now have two Cat5 connecting, so thankfully it won't be a problem......but I have already told DCL that I need the bed in one room separated into 2 twins.
On our last cruise, it was set up as a queen. I told the steward, and by the time we got back from the boat drill, it was set up as 2 twins! They are very good about that.
