Cat 3 or Cat 4????

Ok, we have booked a cat.4 rm 8018. We are thinking about changing to a cat 3 rm. 8048. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME INFO about these two rooms? (would perfer people who have stayed in these rooms before respond, but all are welcom!)

If money is not a problem and you can pay the differnece between a Cat 3 and a Cat 4 go with the Cat 3. I stayed on a Cat 3 on the Wonder and a Cat 4 on the Magic and is a huge difference. First the size of the cabins, second you have concierge service on the Cat.3. Usually is difficult to get a Suite, we were on a wait list for our Magic Cruise and didnt get it. Hope this helps

We're a family of 5 and tossed around this same decision. We decided to go with the category 3 (8022) and it worked out great for us. The room was huge and I loved having all the extra bathroom space. My kids are older and the 8 year old could have a jacuzzi bath, while the 14 year old was in the shower in one bathroom and the 18 year old took a shower in the other bathroom. It took us hardly any time to get cleaned up for dinner. We used the dining room table every morning for room service breakfast.

The other added benefit is the concierge service. We were able to make Palo & spa reservations before we even got on the cruise. We got to board first and after lunch we went to the concierge meet and greet and they took care of registering my DD for the kids lab and any other excursions that we wanted. No ressie rush. When we got into the room, there was a big bowl of fruit, 2 bottles of water and 6 cans of assorted soda's waiting for us. Each night, they would stop by with a plate of desserts, or cookies and see if there was anything that we needed. We were invited to a concierge cocktail hour on Nassau day where they had drinks and appetizers. On our last night, they delivered our bill by 4pm, so that if there were any errors, they could have them fixed without us having to wait in line at guest services.

There is quite a difference in price between the two, so only you can decide if it's worth it.

We had a Cat 4, and we took a look at a Cat. 3. BIG difference!!! Cat 4 is just a room...Cat 3 is suite, with a separate bedroom and sitting area. PLUS concierge service. If you can afford it and IF there's even any available this close to your sailing date...Go For It!!

My main concern is the noise! I had heard that there was a lot of noise in the cat.3. Those of you that have stayed there, what do you think about that?

I can tell you that our cat 3 stateroom was two doors down from the cat 4 that you currently have (8018). We never heard anything from above us or from the rooms next to us. It's a great location also because you're close to both the midship and forward elevators/stairs. In doing a search on the boards, it looks like quite a few posters found stateroom 8048 to be very noisy. That could be a big drawback, even for the extra space.

TammiMcMan, you said you can book spa reservation too! I was not aware of this! How do you do this? Do you call them or do they call you? That's great news if it's true! I only thought you could book Palo's..... Thanks for your help!

My family (DH, DD8 DS3, DM) and I had room 8048 on the Wonder a couple of years ago and loved it! I have read the different posts that 8048 was noisy, but we didn't have that much of a problem with it. If you have your verandah door open during the deck parties you will hear the music, but we didn't really hear it with the door closed. Plus we were up at the deck party for most of the party!!!

My mom, who traveled with us on that cruise, is a very early riser and she did hear some of the deck noise (the crew moving the chairs in the morning) that other people have mentioned, but that was only because she was already awake and the cabin was extremely quiet because the rest of us were still sleeping. It never bothered the rest of us, we had so much fun during the day that we were worn out and we slept like babies.

If someone in your family is a particularily light sleeper they might hear some noise in the morning, but you could always bring a white noise machine and I think that it would drown out any noise that you might hear. My baby is and we plan to bring one on our next cruise just in case.

We loved the Cat. 3 and think the price is more than worth it if you can afford it. When we booked our upcoming December cruise we debated seriously whether to get a cat 3 or 4. We ultimately decided to go with a Cat 4 this time, mainly because my mom is not traveling with us this time and our newest addition will only be 1 and therefore will sleep a porta crib leaving us plenty of room. However we will probably go back to Cat 3 or above after that.

We were just in 8048 last week. I would say any cat 3 is better than any cat 4 if you can swing the money difference. The cat 3s and 4s are on the same deck so will have the same noise issues. We traveled with other families staying on deck 6 and there rooms are quieter. In 8048, at about 6 a.m. we heard them setting up the deck chairs above us for about 10 minutes. Annoying, but not enough of an issue to go into a cat 4.

One thing, how many people are in your party?? 8048 sleeps 5 people, but that includes a murphy bed in the master bedroom. some of the other cat 3s have the 5th bed in the living room.

Wildernessgirl, We stayed in room 8040 this past June. We will NEVER stay anywhere near that area again. In previous years we were in a cat 6 and it was so much quieter. Now.. if you stay up until 1-2am and get up between 5:30am and 6:00am, you would be just fine. The morning that is especially loud is the morning that they power clean that part of the ship. We are not light sleepers, but found it very noisy.

We talked to a Disney crew member and they said that this particular area on the ship continues to get complaints... So many complaints that when the Magic goes to dry dock, it will be the number one issue. She said they are trying to figure out how to sound proof that floor.

If you can get a room away from being under the pools, it will be much better.

We were in 8048 on the Wonder a couple of years ago, and will never stay anywhere near that part of deck 8 again. Everyone has their own opinion about noise, but we found that we could hear a lot from deck 9. Early in the morning when they set up for the day we could hear chairs and tables being moved, carts rolling to the bars/snackbars, etc. During the day you could hear children (maybe some adults too) running near the pools. The night of the deck party there was no way any of us could go to sleep until it was over.

When we were on the Magic this past April we chose a cat 4 (8508) directly under the hair salon and it was very quiet. We liked it so much we have it booked for the eastbound repo cruise next year.
