Category 12's have a maximum of 3 guests but can often be booked as a "guarantee" for parties of 4.

I don't understand! We are a party of 4. If I try to book a cat 12 on DCL's website it will let me but I don't understand why it says a max of 3 guests.

Help! Thanks!

can you say 'automatic upgrade' boys and girls? You will automatically receive cat 11 digs.

We are booked that way, too.

You've found the only way to get a guaranteed upgrade!

Only thing to consider is if don't like your room assignment when you get it, you probably won't get much sympathy if you originally booked a gty.

Some people have pretty specific preferences as to room location on the ship - gty. is a take what you get type deal.

Yaaaa we also have a Cat 12 GTY and we have 4 people in our party. The way it was described to me is it is like when you book a room at a hotel, you don't know which room you are going to get you are just guaranteed a room. However, I have also heard that if you have a Cat 12 and 4 people in your party you are almost sure to get a 11 or better.

Enjoy!!

Just keep in mind that an "upgrade" from cat 12 to cat 11 means getting an identical room on a different deck. And 4 people in a cat 11 can be pretty cramped (though comparable to a standard room on some other cruise lines). Even still, if it saves money, great!

On our last two cruises we booked a cat 12 and there are 4 in our party. 2 adults and 2 children. The first time we where upgraded to a cat 9 and second a cat 10 and we just booked a cat 12 on Monday for next March. We are guaranteed an upgrade hopefully it will be a cat 10 again. I asked our travel agent ( small world) once we where assigned a room if we didn't like the location if we could move to another room within the cat and she said yes as long as there was inventory available. I am excited as we will get more value than what we paid for. :earsboy:

I booked the cat 12 guarantee through DCL. I tried booking through DU and it said we had too many people in our party. Any suggestions?

Liz,

I just booked a CAT 12 from Dreams Unlimited. They didn't have it in their group inventory, so they had to get it from Disney, but I still got their $50 off rebate, so it was less than Disney. It worked out well.

Their service was fantastic... I highly recommend.

Liz--my suggestion would be to book thru DCL then transfer the ressie to DU (they will probably apply their discount when you transfer.) Alternatively, talk to a live person at DU rather than trying it online.

Technically, a 12 only holds 3 people. However, because they want to fill the ship, they sell a party of 4 at the rate for a 12, knowing that they will sail in at least an 11. It's no big deal--same room, different deck. If you are not picky about where your room is, the gty is definitely the way to go.

gty means that this is the lowest cabin level you can have, but they have the "right" to give you an upgrade without your approval. And....I've never had a problem in a gty room with getting something corrected or getting us moved. We did have a cabin with a broken couch. After 2 attempts to correct it (each lasting several hours), I called guest services and suggested that they either move in a new couch (they had some reason that they couldn't do this) or move us (which they did.)

Liz,

I don't think you can book cat 12 with 4 people unless a GTY (guarantee) reservation is available. If not, they may have to assign you a stateroom at the time of booking and this just can't be done. Making the GTY rate available is DCL's call and they use it to fill the ship, so it may not be available until a few months before the sail date.

I think it's kind of strange that you could get a GTY reservation through DCL and not through DU. But you can transfer your reservation to DU if you wish.
