I have finally decided to switch my reservation from 1 cat 4 room to 2 connecting cat 10 rooms. My TA just called today and said they only had connecting rooms in the aft area on deck 2 available or in the midship area on deck 1. I have been waitlisted for midship, deck 2. My question is, has anyone stayed on either deck 1 or 2 and would you recommend one over another? I looked on the deck plans and don't see many rooms on deck 1 and I'm wondering if that is where all the ship's engines and mechanical equipment is. Will it be noisy?

(btw - I did decide to go with my original TA on this and glad I did. Thanks for the advice on my previous post:D )

We prefer deck 2 aft actually....we always book cat 9 staterooms aft/starboard...

We prefer aft since it is closest to most of the venues we use...In addition, the aft elevators are the least used on the ship....midship elevators are the most used....

The only reason I am concerned with aft is because of motion sickness. I get motion sickness even just being a passenger in a moving car and I read that lower, mid ship was best for that. Did you think the motion is more in the aft section? Also, did you experience much noise in your room on deck 2?

We really do not feel the motion of ship at all, other than the first night crossing the gulf stream.....

some folks on this board have posted that most of the movement on the ship is felt forward, others feel aft.....I'm really not sure...

The staterooms I've picked on deck 2 were always super quiet....contrary to what you may think, the staterooms near the aft elevators are not noisy at all....

Although we've never had a stateroom on deck 1, I would think they would generally be noisier than deck 2, simply b/c they are located near the engines and closer to all the "works" of the ship...

Since you are a motion sickness sufferer, I would recommend the remedies I'm sure you are familiar with i.e. Bonine...I would also bring a 12-pack of ginger ale with you for the stateroom cooler....

On our first cruise we stayed in a cat 10 aft right near the elevators. It wasn't that noisy. it was so easy to get an elevator too. The rocking was very gentle. It actually helped us sleep. We would reserve rooms there again. This last cruise we were close to midship & it was definatly harder to get an elevator there. But the noise level was not that different from the aft area. For the amount of time your in your room you should feel okay

we stayed in a cat 10 mid on deck 1 in february. at first i was amd, but I loved it!
the best was when we got on and of the ships. it was just a short walk, no waiting
elevators or stairs, and nothing but rooms above us. We never heard the engines at
all and it was so quiet!

which room did you stay in on deck 1? And do you know what else is on deck 1? When I check out the deck layouts, there are only a few rooms on deck 1 - what is all that other space used for? (just curious)

What type of noises did you hear? From restaurants/clubs above or more like engine/mechanical noises from below? I had to convince DH that two connecting rooms was better than the cat 4 we had originally booked - he really wanted a verandah and he was adament about not wanting to be low in the ship for fear of hearing the engines etc running all the time. I would hate to get there and have him be miserable because of noise.

I definately plan on bringing every motion sickness remedy/medication I can think of. I would hate to have this trip be ruined by motion sickness. (that is actually part of the reason I decided to switch to a cat 10 )

Thanks to everyone for all the great replies! I knew I could count on posters here to give some insight!

We were in 1051. I believe the rest of the space is crew quarters and crew area's. They had the door open and we peeked in, we are going on the 8/20/05 repo cruise and this time we booked a caty 12 gty and we know that they are on deck 2 forward so we are very happy. At first I was sad to be so low, but we never felt the boat move and we never heard any engine noise. On land days it was so nice to walk right out and not have to do stairs or wait for the elevator. and the best thing when we did call an elevator, they were always empty becasue it starts on deck 1 (except for the few who got in not knowing it was going down.)

Just heard from my TA yesterday and she has us in rooms 2143 and 2145, but had rooms 1075 and 1075 available. Has anyone stayed in any of these specific rooms? 2143/2145 are listed as noisy rooms. Thanks!!
