This is our 1st time staying on Disney property. We are staying at the Boardwalk. We would like a casual place to have dinner. We are meat & potatoe type. No really into fancy food. What would you recommend? TIA

We love Cape May buffet over at the Beach Club (a quick walk for you). It is a seafood buffet, but has plenty of meat also. The desserts are great as well.

We like walking down to Disney-MGM Studios and having dinner at the Prime Time Cafe... best meatloaf and potatoes on property.

For some great meat and potatoes try the Yachtsman Steak House, it's a short walk from the boardwalk. It's not casual but it is nice. Dress is resort casual, shorts are ok in hot weather.

A great casual place is the ESPN ZONE. This is burgers, fries, hot dog (best hot dog in Disney, possibly the whole state of Florida), chicken fingers etc. It is always active and all of the games are on the TV's. The main TV is a wall sized unit made up of about 25 TV's. They also have some live talk shows there.

Spoodles is casual, but a bit of a stretch for strickly plain food. It is a mediteranean type restaurant that serves Tapas. They do have good pizza and the atmosphere is good.

I'd stay away from the Big River brewery. It has ok burgers but the rest is poor. I'm sure that people will speak highly of Beaches and Cream. They have very good ice cream but mediocre food.

An often overlooked restaurant is Palio's at the Swan / Dolphin. Palio's is a very good italian restaurant in a very casual setting. Blue Zoo is not plain food, but very good. Shula's is a great steak house, but I prefer Yachtsman (why go to a chain when at Disney?). Enjoy. The Boardwalk area has many great options.

I tend to favor Big River grille. Good meatloaf and fine beer. Beaches is fine if all you want is a burger. ESPN is much too loud!!
Harambe and BIcker's suggestions are both good also.
I also agree that Spoodles may not be enough of a meat and potatoes place.
Other spots (FF, Yachtsman. etc) are now trying to go "upscale", removing themselves from the casual definition.

We love 50s Prime Time. I'm a southern girl so you can bet I know good fried chicken when I taste it and theirs is out of this world delicious, and the meatloaf too. We love it for the fun atmosphere as well.

You gotta try it.

I would suggest the Concourse Steakhouse. We loved it, it was casual and its on the monorail run so you can hop back into Magic Kingdom for wishes.

Beaches and cream - good burgers and ice cream

Yacht Club Galley - casual dining with fair selection of entrees

ESPN zone - a little loud and crowded though if you go on a game night.

From these two meat and potatos people -

Yacht Club Galley
Dolphin Grill
ESPN Club
Big River Grill

All casual sit downs with no seatings needed. Note that the ESPN Club can get extremely crowded on game days.
