Wasn't yesterday the first night for a family to stay in Cinderella's Castle?
Any news or reports on that?
I am just curious. I think that would be an amazing dream to win!

Copied from allearsnet.com:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- A Michigan family has made history as the first Walt Disney World guests to win a night's stay inside Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Park as part of the unique Disney Dreams Giveaway. The Fouch (pronounced like "couch") family of DeWitt, a small town near state capital Lansing, gained the key to the brand new Cinderella Castle Suite Thursday during "The Year of a Million Dreams," a Disney spectacular celebrating the dreams of guests at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California.

Jim and Lisa Fouch and their children, Brad and Hannah, were to spend Thursday night in the regal dwelling place -- the world's most exclusive resort, with only one room available and no reservations accepted -- through the Disney Dreams Giveaway, which awards extra-special dreams through a totally random process. Now, nearly every night for the remainder of 2007, another eligible lucky guest will win a similar stay.

Like the Fouch family, they'll be honored in a special ceremony, dine at Cinderella's Royal Table restaurant, and bed down for the night amid the splendor of Cinderella Castle Suite some four stories above the surrounding Magic Kingdom -- a salon, bedchamber and bathroom off of a private marble-floored foyer, all replete with rich details. The Suite was created from unused space within the Magic Kingdom landmark once envisioned as in-park living quarters for members of the Disney family.

The Fouches became the recipients of the opportunity to become honorary Disney royalty for a day and night because 16-year-old Brad Fouch was sitting in seat eight in the second row of Simulator 4 of the Disney-MGM Studios' Star Tours attraction at 9:50 a.m. Thursday. That was the randomly selected location and time determined by the Disney Dreams Giveaway computer to award the Cinderella Castle stay.

"I was thinking I had the bad seat because I was sitting on the end," Brad said.

"It's like a dream," Lisa exclaimed.

Hannah added, "This is a dream come true!"

And indeed, for Hannah, who was celebrating her eighth birthday Thursday, it was. Before the vacation to Walt Disney World Resort, she had seen a Disney commercial in which Cinderella dances with a little "princess" and told her mom, "That's what I want to do!"

Winning the night in Cinderella Castle Suite marked the second bit of good fortune Thursday for the Fouch family. As they entered Star Tours, they won Dream FASTPASS badges that would allow them to bypass standby queues at a variety of Disney-MGM Studios attractions and shows during the day.

"I never win anything!" Lisa Fouch said afterward.

"Mom, you can never say that again," Brad responded

i thought so too...i was looking for maybe a video or something? oh well, i guess we'll wait and see if anything postspopcorn::

This is maybe a stupid question -- well, you're all Disney nuts too, so, any guesses on whether it would be worth it for a castle guest to watch Wishes from that vantage point?

This family was from a town near me. Here's our local newspaper's article:

DeWitt family wins stay at Cinderella's Castle
By Mike Hughes
Lansing State Journal

On a cold and rainy morning Thursday, a DeWitt family accidentally became famous.

At random, the Fouches were chosen as the first people to spend the night in Cinderella's Castle, in the heart of Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Fla.

"I was really stunned," Lisa Fouch said by phone Thursday. "Except for little drawings, I'd never won anything."

Then they won big. "It probably took 15 or 20 minutes for everything to sink in," Jim Fouch said.

The Fouches (rhymes with "couches") have a DeWitt mailing address and live in the Bath School District. Jim, 49, works for IBM; Lisa, 40, is a preschool teacher.

Brad is 16, a Bath High sophomore. Hannah turned 8 on Monday - the first day of the Disney World vacation - and loves the castle. "I think it's beautiful," she said.

This is the third time the Fouches have been to Disney World and a lot of happenstance was involved.

"It was kind of cold and rainy," Jim said. "We stayed in the car for a while, hoping it would let up."

It didn't, so they reluctantly stepped into the MGM Studios portion of the park. "We all got our ponchos on," Jim said. "We looked like a bunch of wet ducks."

That's where they caught the "Star Tours" ride, Brad's choice. "I'm a big 'Star Wars' fan," he said.

Hannah was hesitant. "I didn't want to go on the ride," she said. She did and the Fouches promptly scored in Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign.

First, it was announced that everyone on the ride had won a "fastpass," allowing shortcuts to other rides. Then the Fouches started to exit the ride.

"As soon as we got out, there were lights and cameras," Jim said. "We didn't know what it was."

A computer, at random, had chosen Brad's seat on the ride as the first winner of the daily contest. That meant by the end of Thursday they would be:

• Grand marshals at the Disney World parade.

• Honored at a dinner in the Cinderella's Royal Table restaurant.

• Measured for royal sleepwear.

• The first people to stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite.

The suite was originally empty space, about four stories above the park. The plan was to have living quarters for the Disney family.

That never happened, though; then this promotion began. The suite was fixed up with a marble foyer and a bedchamber, bathroom and salon, all suitable for royalty - and for the Fouch family.

NMAmy, you just beat me to it! I live in Okemos and when I picked up my LSJ this morning there was the story on the front page. I came here just now to post the link but you did it first!

This is maybe a stupid question -- well, you're all Disney nuts too, so, any guesses on whether it would be worth it for a castle guest to watch Wishes from that vantage point?

Everything I have read indicates there are no windows in the castle suite.

Part of their prize is a special viewing spot for both the parade and fireworks (plus dinner, be in the parade, and tours) but not from the Castle.

We were in the MK Thursday and there was more media people than guest!!! Guess we just assumed the winners would be in the MK but we kept looking around to see where all the media people were going. We KNEW we would not be chosen as there was no way they would choose a family thats hair looked like our did on that cold rainy day!!!!!!

The first family to stay was shown on telelvision and it was all because of the 16 yr old son, sitting in the RIGHT seat on Star Tours at 9:30 am.
Just before winning a stay they wont dream fastpasses LOL! They are so lucky. That family was so happy and deserved to get their dream.

Also, it seems they are awarding the castle stay in the morning hours because after they are taken to see the suite, then are grand marshalls, etc... So... If you get approached around 9:30 one day... It just might be your lucky day!

Just go back 10 minutes ago- and I had to come in here and report that a disboard member (although I was more of a lurker/newbie) won the castle suite on Monday morning Feb. 5th at 10:10 Am on the Barnstormer ride.

No joke-

:cool1: :thumbsup2 :wizard: :goodvibes :woohoo:

I had never heard of it until the night before we left for Orlando (Feb 1st) and we had the honor and priviledge of being the first family to win it at the Magic Kingdom. We were in the Grand Marshal's parade, seated center table at the Cinderalla's table dinner, vip of this and that, our own personal guide to walk on every ride, etc. etc....

The Disney dream squad made us feel like celebrities and royalty, and every Disney cast member that saw our winners button would grab 3 other cast members and make them come meet us before we left their shop(s).

It was great- I hope to post more, as well as some pics.

thought you would all get a kick out of this tidbit being a member of this board- it was something else....the most incredible (and most exclusive) place I will ever stay.

Even the Cast members do not get to see it- it is incredible!

We were/are always fans of Disney....now we are Disney fans for LIFE!

Congratulations & many thanks for whatever you are generous enough to share with us!

Good luck to all the DISers headed down for the year -- you're my only shot for sharing a little bit of the magic.

Congratulations!!!! You are so blessed.:)

I bet you guys were like  :woohoo: :dance3: :cheer2: :cool1: !!

I want to know everything. Please give us all the details. I am especially curious about what you did at night after the park closed. What did it look like? Did it ruin any of the magic?

Also, did they do anything special for you that morning before you departed? Did you have to leave before the park opened or could you just stay for the next day and have them ship your luggage back to your original resort?
I am sorry to be so nosey...I am just so excited someone here on the Dis won! I can't wait to hear all about it.
