CM schedules run from Sun-Sat, so shows tend to come down on Saturdays to avoid schedule weirdness. According to the folks at MK, Jan 2 is it. But yes ... we'll see.

That logic doesn't follow for the Castle Lights schedule last year, or for the Osborne Lights schedule this year.

It also doesn't follow for the START dates of the Christmas events.

It does if you include rehearsal.

Of course it won't always be that way because it depends largely on where holidays or events fall on the calendar and what they expect park attendance rates to be. But I also know that the schedulers and CMs like it a whole lot more when things are neat and tidy and stuff starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday, so they do strive for that.
