I'm curious about the castle icicle lights... ANY reason to suspect they won't be on this holiday season? Between COVID reductions and a new paint scheme (perhaps affecting the lights, as the wiring was color-matched), I'm wondering.... will we see the icicle lights this year???

I think they usually start installing them after Labor Day.
It’s been 9/15 the past 2 years. We’ll see if that holds true again this year. Although the parks are normally decorated for Halloween by this time already, so they could be a bit behind this year.

I don’t know. The thing is, they have to recolor the “invisible” netting that supports the lights so it remains invisible. Unless they worked on it during the closure, they might not have had enough time to do that.

But since they are closing the parks so early, it may not be dark when MK closes anyway.

I would like to see them. They really add to the holiday feeling at MK since they quit putting up the wreath swags across Main Street.

Sunset here in Florida in Nov is around 5:30pm

So it def will be dark enough to see them before park close. But, like you said, did they have enough time to fix them. That is the only thing holding it back IMO.

nobody knows for sure if they will do the dream lights on the castle. And, even if the official word is that the lights are going up this year, that could change on a dime as with so many other things this year.

HOWEVER, I would be surprised if they DON'T do the dream lights this year. Relatively speaking, it's one of the least expensive "big" things they can do to decorate for Christmas. Plus it's one of those things that generates free advertising for the parks and revenue. Between all the people getting the photopass photos of themselves in front of the castle with the lights, or just people taking photos/selfies on their own and posting those all over social media...it's a no brainer.

The cost of putting them up are a small crew for a few nights and a few small cranes that they already own? TBH it's probably net positive revenue for them just on the extra photopass sales alone.

The things I would think that would be scaled back are the smaller areas, especially those that aren't directly tied to revenue. Disney World is normally decorated like EVERYWHERE. Tons of normal sized christmas trees and decorations everywhere. I'm guessing you won't see a lot of the Christmas trees, wreathes, or other decorations in the nooks and crannies of the resorts. They might not do as many of the huge gingerbread houses either.

My guess each resort will get their big tree in the lobby, their "signature decoration" (if any) and some wreaths, lights and such around the main areas, shops, restaurants...and that'll be it.

They have been there the last few years.
Nothing has been released yet, but no reason to think they won't be.

Yes. EXCEPT... they can't make a show of lighting the castle and can't announce a time that the lights will come on because both will draw crowds in one spot. They can do it at random times or even turn them on before sunset so there is no draw to being in front of the castle at a certain time, but would that be enough to keep people moving? Not only that, but I don't know that photopass is the boon it usually is because of people wearing masks. I bought photopass photos from our WDW vacation this summer because the masks were a novelty and I wanted to remember doing specific things in a mask; I don't know that there are many people like me. I don't think the gingerbread is likely this year for the same reason of drawing a crowd. The whole point in parks now seems to be to keep people moving and keep them from congregating. I guess we'll see in a few months.
