aloha! i wanted to use your castle design, you have them in your bucket. it looks like a neon castle, you have 5 color designs on white and then again on black. to use on a black shirt would i use the black one or does it not matter so long as it's on a dark transfer? tia!

Although I am not Kari, I'll try to help.

If you are using a dark transfer, the white in a design will be white. So, choosing the white background will give you a white box around the castle - just as you see on the screen.

So if you are putting them on a black shirt, you probably want to use the black background. Using the black background, the transfer will blend with the shirt and will appear as if the castle is the only thing on the shirt.

Did that even make sense? I hope this helps!

Good grief, thank you for getting me that info, I started with 2 shirts and because of all of you unbelievable DISigners, I'm up to 5 shirts (x 6 people, ugh!) so I've been pretty picky on what I want so I don't end up with 10 shirts, :lmao: would it be ok to use a light transfer since I'll be printing it with black? or will the castle get faded?

Thanks for answering Amy. Just want to add... If you use a dark transfer and the black bacground it will use a boatload of black ink. Just FYI.

I don't use light transfers, I hope someone else can answer this question.

Well Kari, you have a point there. That is a lot of ink. Maybe a light transfer IS the way to go. Does anyone know if the castle would then be faded?

I really don't know. I've never used light transfers and don't think I would try them on anything but a white shirt. Sorry that I did not read the OP's second post very carefully. I just saw that you had responded Amy and thought you had covered it.

Would like to hear if anyone has done a light transfer on a dark shirt if just the color of the neon would pop like it would on a dark transfer. :confused3

I used a light transfer on a hot pink shirt. I consider that a dark color. Look in my photobucket link, in the album Finished Shirts. It's the design with the castle and mouse ears -- click on it twice to enlarge it completely.

The transfer leaves a bit of a haze on a dark shirt when it's a light transfer...:confused3

you ladies REALLY are awesome. i feel so honored to have all of you talented ladies answer. i figured that it would use a ton of black ink so...i have an extra black shirt (one i messed up on with another design), i will print it on a light transfer and iron it on the black shirt to see what we come up with. i have a feeling the castle will be faded (hence the reason i have messed up shirt to sample on), but ya never know, so i will try it and post back results. i saw them completed in the thread by jnx1 (or something like that) but he hasn't been back on the board to ask him what he did, they do look AMAZING on the black shirts. k...so... be back soon. thanks again for all of the help!

Please let me know how it worked, I'm making one on a black sweatshirt for DD. With all the journals, abc books and shirts (10 x 4 kids, 4x 6 adults) I've already replaced ink 3 times..:scared1:

k, so i couldn't remember which thread i needed to post these, i may post this on the "dark transfer" instructions.
the first image is the result of using a light transfer on a dark shirt...no good, you can't see the colors or image at all, first ruined shirt that has now become my "tester" shirt

this image is using the light castle image from rumbly (was the red castle on white) with a light transfer

... no good, the one good thing about my new "tester" shirt. also, i tried the glow in the dark paint, works great, you can use it, however, the DISign from rumbly is so nice, you don't need it

with all that done, i took the image from rumbly (black backing with purple castle) erased the black around the image then printed it, FABULOUS! This allowed me to not use alot of ink as I would be cutting around the castle anyways. these both are the outcome of erasing the black around the castle on a dark transfer, cutting off the now white part of the transfer and voila! BEE-U-TI-FUL! thank you rumbly for such a great disign, when i finish them all (waiting for my cool dark transfers from amy) I will post my tees as well as all my steps i took (yes, there were some tragic moments, that i hope to save someone else from) and i will do some closeups as i'm very pleased with what i have done thus far.
