Castaway Club

As much as i'd like to come up with great ideas on how it should change...i'll wait till it gets announced so that i don't get disappointed with anything less...

until then...i just wish they wouldn't give us "loyal" customers stale crackers...really?!?

The crackers are just the right size for a pre-cruise snack. DH amuses himself by throwing the crackers to the seagulls who catch them mid-air.

Also depending on who is working in the port, they may or may not let you check in at the concierge desk.

I'd like to see them add a tier if only it would get them to re-introduce the "experiences". Some of them were very interesting and it was nice to have something new to look forward to doing.

Fwiw, in Alaska there was a dedicated first-timer line, silver/gold line, platinum/concierge line, and supervisor line (for upgrades) with signs and ropes and all. Fancy! And also helpful. Much easier to navigate than PC.

Before you blast me - we are platinum, 15 cruises, 114 days. I feel that they should and should have, grandfathered people. Also, it seems unfair that they don't invite the silver castaway members to a reception, the use to. I understand that on some cruises there are too many to fit into a lounge, but they could come up with something, even if it means having two receptions.

From what we saw there were always more people in the CC check-in line that the others. I've always been curious what percentage of a cruise is CC members. But I think with so many at least silver level we're lucky they still get a gift each time. I think being CC is the norm now rather than the exception.

This is true. Thats just another reason to add another level.:stir:

Or..... They could raise the number of cruises required to hit Silver. I was surprised when we got membership cards after our FIRST cruise.. They should start Silver at like 5 and go from there. You shouldn't be able to be gold at 5 cruises already, especially with so many repeat customers.

Grandfathered people into what?

Sent from my Tricorder using DISBoards

I think she means people who already had say 15-20 cruises under their belt at the time they changed Platinums gifts and perks should have been grandfathered in and been able to keep all the old perks... Or maybe people who had been platinum since a certain year or something like that. :)

I would suggest

. 5 credit for 3-4 nights
1 credit for 5-7 night

There are a couple of problems I have with counting 3/4 day cruises as less than a 7 night cruise towards a DCL loyalty program. First there are some 3/4 night cruises that cost as much as longer cruises (the inaugural Dream cruise pops to mind; some summer 3/4 nighters cost more than 7 nights in September, etc.; heck, some of them cost more than our Transatlantic cruises!)

But my biggest problem is that DCL's most loyal customers have at least one shorter cruise under their belt -- because we sailed with DCL when they only offered 3/4 night cruises on the Magic! Don't know why that should count as less in a LOYALTY program.

Realistically, the CC is a marketing ploy. Offering the CC Silver after a single cruise is a great enticement to those on the fence about booking again, while costing very little. "You get your own line, a present in your cabin, shiny lanyards, earlier booking" all sounds like a very big deal.

Whereas Platinum guests have taken many cruises, despite perks being dropped, there is little indicator that they won't continue to do so.

While there may be a way that seems better to us as Cruisers, it doesn't mean it matches the purpose of the program.

I think the only thing DCL would consider is another level. If they do that they should set the bar high. That way there would be an incentive for multi cruisers to try and reach the new level. This could also be a marketing ploy for DCL. If they do they should also add a few more perks.:thumbsup2 IF IF IF IF !

I like the idea of the "nights" counting as points - and then additional points for "concierge Level" (since you are paying more), or even "specialty cruising" getting additional points if that is a higher paying cruise. :thumbsup2

We will be doing our 30th DCL next month....I do wish they had another level or didn't keep taking away the perks of the current Platinum level.

MJ

When we grow up .............we want to be just like MJ. :thumbsup2
......doing cruise # 11 in two weeks..... cruise #12 5/2014 and cruise #13 10/2014. :thumbsup2

We were recently on the DVC Member Cruise and there I spoke to an executive from the cruise line and he said they are hearing what we are all saying and they are having discussions on how to make adjustments to the Castaway Club.:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

It would be nice if there was some sort of plan that took into consideration number of nights onboard as well as number of cruises.

We already have 67 days after 6 cruises. I wish that DCL did their loyalty program like other cruiselines (by number of days).

This.

It makes no sense to do number of cruises. It should be number of days at sea, like pretty much every other line.

You are absolutly correct. There are cruisers who are Platinum and have less days sailed than you do.

Probably close!

I am trying to think of a rational, business related decision to screw over people who go on long cruises, and I cant.

Also, if Carnival can pull off ship tours (and charge a hundred bucks for them!!!), which I gladly paid to see the engine room, I95, crew mess, galley, and bridge, so can Disney.
