Hi Everyone,
I continue to be negligent in my planning (at least by my standards LOL) DH and I are silver Castaway Club members (I'd like to make the case that DS is as well...his first trip was in utero-but I doubt DCL will see it that way...)
In the past, we have gotten lanyards at check in. Does this still happen? Will DS get a silver one too? I want to make sure that he gets one too and isn't left out.
TIA for your help!

Yes, everyone in your stateroom will get a silver lanyard.

On our first cruise with our kids, DH and I were Silver and received our lanyards but it was our kids first and they did not. It seems like it will depend on who checks you in.

You may need to ask for the lanyard. They don’t always give them to you automatically; they may assume that repeat cruisers have so many they don’t want more. So if they don’t hand them to you at check in, just ask!

My daughter had the same “in-uteru” issue as your son. I don’t remember what happened on her first real cruise, but I know on the first cruise when my husband and I were platinum, our daughter got a gold lanyard. Once we were onboard, she did stop by guest services at a time when they were not busy and ask for a platinum lanyards, which she received. (I warned her that the cast member might say no, in which case she should politely thank him or her and walk away.)

As far as I can recall, my husband and I have always been offered lanyards at check-in. If your son is not offered a lanyard, you could ask for one, but as with all special requests it is not guaranteed.

Did you pay for your son's "first cruise"? I doubt it, so it would not count, nor should it. As for lanyards, if the CM at check-in is following the rules, he will not receive one as the rule is that only Castaway Club members receive lanyards in a color appropriate to their level.

But in this case, there is no grounds to receive a lanyard, as the son is not a repeat cruiser. Don't ask CMs for things that are not allowed under the rules, it just puts them in a difficult spot.

As far as I know, kids take on their parents’ status after they’ve had their first “real” cruise.

But with the first cruise the kids take they don’t have that status quite yet. So the lanyard at checkin isn’t a given.

It’s the same on Royal. DS’s first cruise was as a clump of rapidly dividing cells lol. They don’t do status lanyards on Royal, but on DS’s first Earthside cruise he didn’t get the coupons. On his second, after he got his frequent cruiser number, he did. And we all turned platinum on Royal at the same time.

No, this is not the case. Everyone has their own status. On our last cruise, DH and I received Gold lanyards for our 6th cruise and our boys received Silver for their 5th cruise. Our stateroom gift was the Gold gift because that was the highest status in the room.

Interesting.

Score another for Royal in my book, then.

So there will be zero reason or cause for the OP to ask for or receive lanyards for their child.

Correct, a new cruiser should not receive a lanyard. If the original poster needs one for their child they should bring one or buy one onboard.

Funny thing happened with our family. We started cruising in 2001. We had gone on several prior to me becoming a cast member. As a cast member, you do get cc credit for most cruises. My family received credit for all cruises, I received credit for most. In late 2011, we did a concierge cruise on the Dream. No discount, full price. They hand us our lanyards, 3 platinum and 2 gold. My youngest just officially hit platinum this past cruise.

Assuming that my wife, my oldest and myself were platinum, I put the lanyard on. My daughters wore the gold. The second day, the concierge host comes up and during a conversation, questions my platinum lanyard. Apparently, I had received credit for a few cruises and then they removed them. After the cruise, it was resolved, but it was funny that he questioned over a lanyard.

I never expected to get credit for Work cruises (not as fun as it sounds, I assure you), but for the cruises that I booked and paid for, they are supposed to issue credit. Just like any other discount.

When we checked in for our cruise last month, my 13 yo daughter had her last gold lanyard. Since I don’t wear mine, I gave mine to her and made her day.

With Royal, kids take on their parents level; with Disney that does not happen. The gift in the stateroom along with booking date is for the highest level, but not lanyards, discounts or passed on to children.

For those of you with kind responses...thank you...

I in NO WAY meant to sound as though Disney should just give DS a lanyard and maybe I should have elaborated more by saying if he wasn't included in the level my husband and I have then I would just purchase regular character lanyards. Not a big deal, but apparently, I was un-caffinated and didn't get my point across entirely. My apologies

Since it has been awhile since we have cruised, I was uncertain if handing out lanyards were still a "thing"-again, if it wasn't I would have happily purchased them for my family prior to boarding the ship because DH and I would love to see how DS enjoys pin trading.

I by no means would assume/demand magic or items be received. We are grateful to board the ship and enjoy our time together as a family.

Again, my apologies.

This and a few of the other replies confuse me. In general I don't see Disney being very protective of their lanyards. I have seen DVC people handing them out like candy just because someone walks by even though they are not DVC.

To be clear; the lanyards do not grant you any special privileges. They are not used for anything. No one looks and treats you different because you have a silver lanyard vs one you had on your own. Further, no one questions the CM's on how many they have, how many they gave out or who they gave them to. There is no "trouble" that the CM would get into for giving a lanyard to the son. There is no 'difficult spot' here - it's not like their manager is going to reprimand them for doing anything wrong.

In general, they don't give them out to everyone simply because it's considered a gift for silver and they don't have enough for everyone on the ship. However, it's certainly well within the CM's discretion to hand out a few extras in cases like these. I would see no harm at all in asking and I would be surprised if the CM didn't give you one - depending on how bad their day has been going and how politely you asked.

We just got off the 11/25 Fantasy cruise and our baby (9 months and first cruise) received a lanyard. We didn't ask for one, the CM just handed them out.

Correct, I just meant that they may not automatically give them to you even if you should receive them. When DH and I checked in for our 3rd cruise, they didn’t give us lanyards until I asked.

We where on the 12/4 Dream cruise. My DW, myself, Gold members, our DD, Silver member, her DGD 1st cruise, the CM at the Port, without asking gave the lanyards, plus one for "little" one, 10 yrs old, without any asking
