Castaway Cay - what to see and do

Has anyone done the waling and kayak nature adventure? It's a 40 minute nature walk and then an hour of kayak. Do you have to have strong arms to kayak - and is it a one or 2 person kayak? Our friends want to do it but I'm not sure I'm physically able. Any suggestions?

but we will be first timer cruisers. Do you have to pay for all the food and drinks that everyone is mentioning at CC? Do you have to pay for all the activities? Some clarification on what is free and what costs would be helpful. Thanks!

it was just dh and me and we did the treasure hunt while on cc. it was a lot of fun and we had a blast. managed to get a piece of the treasure at the end. third group in but first group who did not open the hint.
this activity is good for singles, couples or whole families. dh asked if we could do it again when we go back in feb. something to think about.::yes::
Can you tell me more about this treasure hunt, please?

Husband and I have taken some Disney Cruises and I don't have an idea about the treasure hunt on CC. Looks like we have been missing out on some fun.

All the food and all the soda pop are free. Alcoholic drinks and specialty drinks are not. You would use your KTTW card for those. For any excursions or bike/float rentals, you need to book them in advance, on-line, and yes, you pay for those. They will be added to your ship account. Any souveniers you happen to purchase are paid for with your KTTW card. Any spa treatments are also added to your ship account.
You need to go on-line and book your excursions and rentals. You do that at your 105 day windo, 90 day window or 75 day window, depending on if you have cruised with DCL before or what cat of stateroom you are in.

My question is about life vests -- are there any available? Is there a fee? If there are none available, can you bring your own? I know that my DS7 would love to try snorkeling, but he's not such a strong swimmer that he'd be able to keep himself in that position for very long, so a life vest would certainly be a big help.

I would also like to know the answer to the PP's question, about lockers...

We are leaving for WDW next Saturday (10/4) and our cruise is on the 9th, so I'm soaking up every last little bit of information I can right now! LOL :)

Thanks!

The life vests are free.

There are no lockers. Most folks just leave there stuff on their chairs...though I'd make sure valuables are out of sight. Just bring a disposable camera/underwater camera to the beach. Kind of risky to get sand or water in the 'good' one. There are 'dry pouches' that you can buy (DCL sells them too) that attach to your lanyard and can hold your id and KTTW card so you can take it in the water with you..

Things HAVE 'gone missing' on CC, but it's not very common.

Anyone have any recent news on the bannana boats? I want to book our next cruise in May, but am deciding between the Magic and the Carribean Princess. We loved the bannana boat on the Magic several years ago and just cannot imagine a beach day at CC (or any Carribean beach) without doing it! Thanks...

Lucy, that is exactly what I was going to ask!
Anybody?
Also anybody ever went running around the bike track? Is it well signposted?

Has anyone done the kayak/walking excursion?

Has anyone done the waverunner excursion on CC?

Is it worth it?

Thanks!

Are there hammocks on the family beach?

Yes there are some hammocks on the family beach. They do tend to go quite quickly though and there is often discussion on here about people "saving" a hammock for the day with their stuff but never actually using it.

If you keep walking to the far end of the family beach you are more likely to find a vacant one though.

We def experienced the hammock saving last week we had to walk all the way to the heads up bar to find one but most of them had the white towels saving them w/no one around. My son tried to sit in one that had atowel saving it and was told when the guy walked up that he could sit there for a picture only . I felt that this was rude but we were able to find them after 2:00 PM. dh WAS UNIMPRESSED w/ bottom fishing
ds scared of stingrays after one I was feeding was a little agressive and startled me by sucking my hand so hard it made a hickey . DD and I parasailed and loved it b/c it was our first time but did not recieve area info like posts from several years ago. It was windy so we had to go tandum and did not feel we went the 600-1000 ft . more like 200 . Next time we will prob just rent bikes, floats ,or jet skis

I noticed that some of these posts say it takes about 1.5 hours to ride bikes around the island and make the stops. Do they charge you for that extra half hour?

I don't think so- and here's why I think that... they have no way to know how long you've had it!
Seriously... they have nothing they do that would let them know when you took the bike. For us we booked the getaway pkg and all they did was write on the back of the ticket when we got our snorkels, again when we got our floats, and again when we got the bikes. They abbreviated it (like wrote FL on the back when we got floats, wrote B when we got the bikes) and that's it. they literally took the tickets, didn't even look at them just flipped them over and wrote a B on the back and then we got our bikes and went. They obviously do this just so there is no way to reuse the ticket to get a bike AGAIN at a later time that day- but there is literally no way, with this process, they'd have any idea how long we had our bike. We could have had our bikes for hours and hours and they'd never know. :lmao:

banana boats were still gone in early June- who knows if they'll come back. :(

Bike trails are paved and it's easy to tell where they are. I didn't see people running on the bike trails though. The twist/turns were kinda dangerous because all the signs repeatedly kept saying to keep LEFT (I'd venture a guess most people are used to staying to the right- including us) and we obeyed the signs and stayed on the left only to have almost head on crashes with large groups of people coming from the other direction who were NOT keeping left. LOL

hammocks- every trip we've gone to CC, even when rushing off the ship as soon as possible, we find the hammocks all "saved" with towels or a shoe or whatever- all of them! This last trip even when we made it to serenity bay- and it wasn't what I'd call crowded there at all- hammocks were saved by stuff with hardly any of them having actual people laying in them! (except one with a gentleman in it obviously enjoying it very much- he was even snoring LOL)
