Hi,

I was looking over the excursions available on Castaway Cay. One out there is the Snorkel Lagoon Equipment Rental that gets you equipment and access to the snorkel lagoon park.

My question is, if I bring my own snorkel gear, can I use it in the Snorkel Lagoon park?

Thanks.

John

yes The will provide a vest you will have to wear.

We recently cruised and snorkeled at CC. We brought our own mask and snorkels. We rented the fins for $9. They provide vests, which is mandatory. However, we got charged $9/each for the vests. My husband was the one who got them and didn't realize that they were suppose to be free, LOL. He came back to the chairs with the equipment in shock. He couldn't believe how much it cost! Once back on the ship, we went to guest services to check into this charge. They took the vest charge off our account and didn't even know how we could have been charged for them. Anyways, just make sure you don't pay for those vests!

We brought our own gear & they gave us the vests. No charge.
Just a safety tip for you, when you go make sure you put lotion on your back! hehe guess how we learned that! ENJOY!!! :scratchin:

Ok- sorry- I know there are numerous threads on this already but with the search down I will have to ask again---
Where is the best place to get snorkel gear before we leave?

Hey! The thread always mentions Wal-Mart; however, since it's winter time, I haven't been able to find any there.

If you guys know of a Wal-Mart that carries them (i.e., near Port Canaveral), would you please post it for us?

Thanks! :flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

I found a dive shop near home and went there and got some good snorkel gear. The one that I got for my son and myself doesn't allow any water to go back down the snorkel. This is nice if it is rough and a wave hits you. Also the masks we got don't fog up as much as others we had used, and the fins have water shoes that you can wear at other times. Two sets cost me about $130. If you look at the cost of rentals and we will have these for life, I think it was well worth it. :fish:

I loved the gear I got at www.basspro.com. Here's the exact link for the gear I got for $30 each for DH and me: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=44968&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

DS12 used cheaper plastic WalMart gear, but had no fins; he really would have liked some fins (I lent him mine). We had gotten the WalMart gear for the kids over the summer.

Good luck!

btw, when we snorkeled last week at CC, there was no Mickey! The said he'd been removed for cleaning...

We brought our own snorkel gear (DH's parents have a pool store) but we didn't bring fins .. didn't even think of it. We tried to rent them but were told that it would be $25 and that they couldn't rent us just the fins, that it only comes in the package.. The folks with fins *really* kicked up alot of stuff making the water cloudy. Dh said it wasn't as bad out by the mickey and sub, and that it was pretty clear. As PoohJen said, Mickey was on vacation :)

Did anyone else think it was strange that everyone was wearing their vests backwards, and that they tell you to wear them backwards? If the point is so that the Lifeguards can see you, what good is it if you wear them on the front? :confused

We saw snorkle gear everywhere down there.. in the walmart on 192 (nearish to Disney) at the Publix, at Nassau (was much more expensive, for not so good stuff), and as you drive to port there are a ton of places. If you can't wait till you get there or think you won't have time when you get there try your local mega-sport store or maybe even amazon.com

I got some great deals on snorkeling sets. My 7 year old dd got a full set and a bag too for $19.95. and my DW and me each got sets for $49.95 with a bag. fast delivery too. Got them at http://www.diveus.com

We got ours at sams club. I believe the brand is Body Glove, They have the dry snorkle, mask, fins, and a back pack type carrying bag. We used them on the last two cruises.

??It is best to buy your gear from a dive shop in person if you plan to use it on
a regular basis. The staff at a dive shop are trained to help you find the best
fit. If your mask doesn't fit properly, it will be uncomfortable, and could
leak more than a little resulting in spending more time with your face out of
the water than in. Dive shops usually carry a wide price range of
merchandise and often if you shop at an outlet you can get a great deal on
clearance items.

I've always wondered how people get a good fit over the internet.

We rented. The fit wasn't great, but we spent less than we would have on good quality equipment (and it is good quality) at home for one use and didn't need to pack it.

If you will snorkle several times this trip - or plan on returning - buy. If this is you first time snorkeling - consider renting.
