Castaway Cay Snorkel Equipment

Most likely. Wasnt he snorkeling?
Yes, he was snorkeling at Serenity Bay. He had a heart attack when he was trying to snorkel back from the wreck a half mile out from shore without his snorkel buddy even though he had a heart condition and wasn't feeling well. It was so sad.

Oh, ok. So a previous health condition. I wondered about that.

So we bought our own snorkeling equipment with fins for the first year. As we did more trips, we eventually just took the masks and snorkels, leaving fins at home. It was cheaper for us to buy them than rent them. Granted, it’s easier to snorkel with fins, but not needed. You can get the vest there as that’s free And mandatory. So it Also depends on how much you can and are willing to pack. I got myself the mask that has the built in snorkel (covers the whole face) and loved it. The past 2 times we’ve not taken anything as we didn’t snorkel. If you have room for it, I’d buy my own as you never know if you may use it again. So again, it just depends on how much room you have!! Oh and FYI - that snorkel route from one side to the other is a lot of work. We were wore out after snorkeling that loop! *grin*

Ok, I am gonna ask and maybe I shouldn't but there was a man on CC that died snorkeling a while back. Anyone know how that happened?

Probably a pre existing medical condition. We have been on a DCL excursion years ago when a guest passed away on a kayak excursion in Key West. We also witnessed a guest pass away at the table next to us in Lumiere's during lunch. Terrible to witness but things do happen.

I have brought my own full face mask for snorkeling and have rented. I absolutely love my full face mask but love convenience of not lugging it.

I have my own gear but the fins take up a lot of room in my luggage. I say at least get yourself a nice mask and snorkel. My cruise is coming up fast so I've been watching a lot of vlogs and watched one the other day where somebody had mentioned that they drank a lot of salt water with the rented gear at Castaway. The gear is not the greatest.

The fins are not necessary but it is quite the swim out to see and experience everything so the fins will get you there and back a lot faster.
