Castaway Cay - lounge chairs and lunch

Hi,

I've heard that if you want to get lounge chairs/umbrellas at CC, you have to make a mad dash off the boat to get them, or else they will all be taken. Is this true? We'll be headed to the family beach.

Also, how is lunch done on CC? Do you go back on the ship, or is there a restaurant on the island? If so, is there a charge?

Lunch at CC is at "Cookie's Barbeque." Don't miss the fruit station (it's off to the side and easy to miss.) There is chicken, hamburgers, salmon burgers, corn, baked beans, cookies, pineapple upside down cake, etc. Lots of good food. You do have the option of having lunch on the ship also. No charge except for sodas and alcohol.

As to getting chairs/umbrellas....we've had times when it was crowded at the family beach and times when it really wasn't an issue. We don't bother with being the first one off the ship or the mad dash routine...it isn't worth the hassle. Especially with kids...relax and enjoy your day.

Yes if you want a hammock or lounge chair under or near the palm trees you need to get off early. We were some of the first ones off last Friday and we had two hammocks side by side and two loungers under the palm trees right behing the store for 7 of us. Lunch is provided at Cookies barbeque right down from the store and it was good. We tried to stay as long as we could. In fact we were the last ones back on the ship-they were rolling up the carpet from the gangway after we got on. Excellent trip all around but Castaway Cay is perfect.

To get a prime location on the CC beach, including a hammock, you might want to get off pretty early. But, chairs are available for a while and usually not too hard to get if you're not late. A hint...go to the far end of the family beach. More people walk to the near end and stop there. We are the type to be off in the first rush but you should get a good spot if you get out in reasonable fashion.

Lunch is in an covered but outdoor facility. It's buffet style and is located right behind the family beach. There is no charge and you may see your wait staff working at it.
