Castaway Cay/Key?

Yes, take clues from crew but remember that they may have an accent that isn't expected to translate to American.
When I was in organic chemistry all of my professors were British and they taught us about ME-thane. Finally a friend of mine couldn't take it anymore. They pointed out that's its methane (with a short e). Didn't even occur to me that I was speaking of the same thing. I picked up so many British pronunciations and it took years to undo it.

My bro in law would have considered that an improvement. :) (British)

Edit: Don't forget AL- YU- MIN- I-UM

:rotfl2:

I hear Parrot Cay pronounced incorrectly also, even though all the CMs say it the right way. ;)

So if 'cay' is always pronounced 'key', it should be pronounced Parrot 'key'? Right?

I hate this word! I know it is pronounce key but it drives me nuts to have to read it cay but make it come out as key. Parrot Cay on the Magic is another one that drive me nuts.

Another reason I love these boards. I would have definitely called it Parrot CAY not key. UGH! I need to get myself together. I board in FOUR DAYS!!!:cheer2:

Maybe that's one of the reasons DCL is changing the name of the restaurant when they refurb it.

I mean absolutely NO offense here, but this is something that drives me crazy.

If you are going to travel to a foreign country (including the Bahamas), take 5 minutes to learn a little about the place you are going, proper pronunciation, local customs, etc.

Nothing makes people look dumber than being in a foreign country and pronouncing its name improperly, IMO. The phrase "stupid Americans" really rings true sometimes and it's embarrassing.

Well now it's not just Americans who have a hard time with words. Long before my MIL became American she was pronouncing lots of place names wrong. :)
