Was curious to know some info regarding the bottom fishing excursion at castaway cay. Is there a special license required for this and if so where could i get one? Will be going on cruise oct. 2nd and would like to do the fishing thing, but like to know all the info i could regarding this outing. Thanx in advance to all

We were on the 7/11 Wonder cruise, and my DH & I went on the bottom fishing excursion. You don't need a license--all you have to do is book your excursion and the captain takes care of everything. We heard that it was hard to book the excursion, so we booked ours at 8 a.m. on our 60 day mark, and I'm glad we did. When we were on CC they had one excursion in the morning and one in the afternoon--we went at 9 a.m. and got back promptly at noon. There were 7 guests on our boat (the maximum)--2 of them were children around 7-10 years old. We caught beautiful fish, and we enjoyed the excursion a lot--it was also great seeing the Wonder from the fishing excursion. The boat was a 32' open boat with a T-top that provided some shade. We do a lot of fishing in the Chesapeak Bay--in fact, we went fishing today, had fresh fish for dinner. It was really a neat experience for us to fish in the beautiful, clear water off CC. When you drop your line, you can watch your bait go down, and when you catch a fish you see it before it gets to the top of the water. The captain and mate took good care of us. They were very pleasant, and they provide rods and reels (spinning reels), they put your bait on and took your fish of if you wanted them to, and they replace rigs if yours gets lost. They also had plenty of soft drinks and bottled water for all of us. If you like to fish, I highly recommend the excursion--it's catch and release bottom fishing--and we felt that it was well worth the $110 per person.

:bounce: what types of fish is available to catch? glad to hear its worth the price. thanks for info

We caught various types of groupers (black, strawberry, etc), parrot fish and some others that I don't remember the names of--I do remember that they were beautiful and totally different from the fish we are used to catching. Some people caught small sharks. The excursion was worth the $$ to us, because we love to fish! If you want to go on the excursion, make sure you book early.

:earseek: sharks? :earseek: im liking the sounds of this more and more...definately going to have to book that now!!!!

Father, my DS and DH will be doing the fishing trip also (I hope) and we will be on the same cruise! They did this last year and are looking forward to doing it again. They had a ball!I am calling at the 60 day mark and requesting the 9:15 as a first choice and the 1:00pm as the second choice.
I highly recommend you booking as early as possible! How many people are in your fishing party?

It would be just me. I think the wife is booking my trip for it asap. Always wanted to try that type of fishing.

Relling- How many people do you have for your outing? I thought i read that a group of 5 is needed somewhere. What time were you going to book yours for? Let me know and i will try to get at same time.
